One player shouldn't be expected to carry a team, though. Look at Price and the Habs this past season. And in the post-season, that's magnified (see Lundqvist with the Rangers in the first round). You need depth to win.

Ovechkin did lead. The depth players on the Capitals didn't do their jobs. You can't blame him for that.

Dude some players just have that lil extra to make the players around him better when its needed. Toews, Sid,  They have it.

They dont need to score the most goals or assts.

Actually, the Blackhawks have had depth, perhaps the best depth of any franchise in the NHL the past 7-8 seasons. That's been the case for the Penguins this post-season, getting significantly better play from all four forward lines, namely players like Bonino, Kessel, and Hornqvist. If not for them, do you honestly see the Penguins making it to the ECF? I sure don't, especially when Crosby and Malkin - two cornerstones for that franchise - went unnoticeable for lengthy stretches vs. the Capitals. In previous seasons, the Penguins were a regular season powerhouse but came up short more often than because of a lack of depth. Despite Crosby's leadership.

And then there is the other team in the ECF: the Lightning. Stamkos hasn't played in ages but the team's depth has shone and they've gone 8-2 so far in the playoffs. A successful playoff campaign in today's NHL relies heavily on good depth, not on intangibles of the player wearing the C on his jersey. One player can't and doesn't carry a team. Look at the Stars last night: game 7 on home ice and they get slaughtered by a team with superior depth.

I agree with muddy on this one as well. Actually I think we all kinda agree. It s all about depth and the Jets are headed there for sure.

I hate to say it but the Pittsburgh Penguins just might be done.

No Daly, ?'s about goaltending, Crosby invisible, etc..

On the other hand the Lightning are darn impressive. Kudos to Stevie Y!!

Though I think both series will go seven games.

Was the Chicago move a cap move? Seems the trade favours Car.

It's absolutely a cap shedding move by the Hawks. Great acquisition for the Hurricanes, too.
