Do the Caps survive tonight?

I say YES!

Preds finish off Sharks I hate to say

Stars beat Blues I also hate to say

If that happens that happens the western final is a complete dud for me.

Yeah, no. They were lousy for long stretches last night and if not for some serious goaltending by Holtby, that game likely ends at the end of the third period. The better team won the series.

Gotta feel for Ovechkin in what might have been his best opportunity so far to win a championship. And Holtby, who's been a stud in net.

Weird fact: Carl Hagelin has played for the team that's eliminated the Capitals every season of his career the Caps have made the playoffs.

I dont feel for Ovi ...  I like him and all but hes never had enough to get over the hump. Hes krazy good but he just dont have that thing to to put a team on his shoulders and take them with him.

Ill bet that the only way Ovi gets a Cup is if one day hes traded at the dead line to a team on the run.

Crazy. Maybe the Capitals need to sign him. ;D

I couldn't disagree more. One player doesn't make a team and since Trotz took over as HC, Ovechkin has been a much more selfless player and I would argue a better leader. He put up more points in the second round than Crosby and Malkin combined, BTW. IMO, he did more than enough to give his team a chance, but players like Kuznetsov and Burakovsky were no-shows in the post-season. The Capitals' depth which had been important in their regular season campaign disappeared in the playoffs.

They'd probably missed the playoffs, effectively making the run continue, because Wask would have put themselves out of the playoffs...

Read my post again. You just said the same as me.

Scoring points is all good but if you cant carry your team and make them all play better all the points mean nothing.

Leaders lead and make the players around you better.

One player shouldn't be expected to carry a team, though. Look at Price and the Habs this past season. And in the post-season, that's magnified (see Lundqvist with the Rangers in the first round). You need depth to win.

Ovechkin did lead. The depth players on the Capitals didn't do their jobs. You can't blame him for that.
