Pittsburgh trades Jake Guentzel (25% retained) and Ty Smith to Carolina in exchange for Michael Bunting, Ville Koivunen, Vasili Ponomarev, Cruz Lucius, Carolina's 1st RD pick in 2024 (Conditional) and Carolina's 5th RD pick in 2024 (Conditional).

WOWEEEEEEEE what a quantity in return for Guentzel.
I say quantity cuz the valued quality remains to be determined

Canes add for the playoffs, if he gets healthy, and beyond, if he signs .... as he is a UFA

Meanwhile Crosby and his men, playing at Home, go down 6 - 0 to Washington tonight

Dubas managing the Penguins as "good" as he did in Toronto!.....ala a one way ticket downhill. Malkin and Sid might not want to hang around for a rebuild as they near end of shelf life in their careers.

blue_gold_84

Not to defend Dubas but he inherited a pretty lousy situation in Pittsburgh last year. The Penguins are a team on the decline.

Pigskin

If everyone was healthy, Golden Knights would now have $110M in player salaries.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Just ridiculous. There needs to be some sort of adhesion to the salary cap come play-off time.

Vegas on the precipice of falling out of the playoff race though lately. Gone into a slump and several teams on their tail. I hope  their doubling down crazy bet blows up in their face! ;) In true Vegas fashion they are gambling Hertl and Stone + some other injured players are back in time for the playoffs. You have to make the playoffs first though for that to pay off. Also depending on the injuries these two players have, they maybe just can't jump in an perform at their old high level immediately. We shall see if the Vegas gamble pays off.

I still say we should get LTIR releif for the remaining Wheeler buyout cap hit.

How will Las Vegas be under the cap if those players come back?  They can't trade or cut them... and can't make them stay on the IR if they pass a physical.

Will be interesting to see what happens, especially if they miss the playoffs or bow out early.
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

You're joking, right...?

They won't be under the cap, but I doubt any of those players return for the balance of the season. Once the playoffs start, the cap no longer exists. So, don't be shocked if they're all magically healthy in time for the first round.

I hope they miss the playoffs.

Another report says Demko will be out 2 to 4 weeks.  Either way, it's a blow to the Canucks.
