Until he improves, I nominate that nickname for him.  Tommy 2 Drops.

Quote from: tlf on July 20, 2026, 02:30:10 AMCoach Osh brought up the goal line stand on post game on OB.  That was huge.  Play of the game for us?

Kyrie hasn't done much, but man did he appear from nowhere at about 200mph to stuff that sneak.  It was like Scotty beamed him in there.

Why is Lauther suddenly "good"?  Dude stunk the joint up so bad in SSK he almost got the McCallum treatment.  Ya, ok, they never try super long ones so that helps, but still... he should be missing more than this.

I wonder if SSK has a toxic atmosphere, or maybe a too-tough too-competitive one that ruined Lauther mentally when he was there.  The change of team seems to have done wonders for the guy.  Could be because there's no pressure in OTT because everyone already knows they are going to lose?

Throw Long Bannatyne

Quote from: Tecno on July 20, 2026, 03:13:36 AMBecause Brady takes way too long to let the blocks setup, but in the meantime the edge guys come around (in this case from both sides!) and tackle his legs.  Everyone has learned that's the way to stop our run game.  Our OL goes to the 2nd level way too soon and the 1st level collapses in behind them.

Either the hoggies have to linger longer blocking the 1st level, or Brady has to hit it faster.  And I don't think he will/can, because he NEVER does.

As such teams stop Brady waaaay too easily.  It's actually embarrassing and it makes him look like a $300k chump.

I think Brady was pretty banged up going into this game, he looked slower than usual and he never did get his gears in motion. I think he may have even subbed out a few plays for MCI, but he sometimes lines up as a wide receiver so can't be sure.

I never really minded ties. It's one of those things that happens so infrequently that I think changes the rules because of it is kind of stupid.

But even if they were going to take away ties, I think that was a terrible way of doing it. It is incredibly gimmicky. The constant switching from offence to defence play after play is annoying and clearly confusing for all around. It would have been way better to just stick with the mini-games.
My wife is amazing!

I am not to worried about the OT format because it will be rare we see what we saw last night. Most Ot games are settled well before they get to the 2 point convert scenario.

The entire CFL and NFL game is gimmicky if you don't like it stick to rugby. No gimmicks there as far as I know.

Take the comeback win but yikes. :-\

First 3OT game in CFL history...?

Blue In BC

Quote from: Tecno on July 20, 2026, 05:33:49 AMI don't think he wanted to hurt anyone, but he looked genuinely perplexed that he got flagged.  I wonder if this is a USA thing (he is a rookie)... does the NFL allow that kind of sack?

I think that would have been a penalty in the NFL as well. I was surprised it was a grade 2 penalty for 25 yards though.

Either way it's something to learn from and he'll see it on the game film revue with coaches.

If Ottawa DB's could catch, it would have been over before and during OT.
Dru kinda stunk, but got away with it.
Brady only managed one head-slapping Brady run in the game, and that was in OT.
The goal line stand kept us in the game, without it, they're up another 7, and we don't get close.
We beat the worst team in the league in OT for our 3rd really close win this year. I'll take it.
Plan for the worst. Hope for the best.

Absolutely he made a key play to keep us in the game. Also Jones on that last Redblack 2 point PAT won the game for us.

Yes, there have been stinky wins, but 4-2 is 4-2.

More than halfway to a playoff spot.

Yes, there were many plays that OTT dropped, and that goal line stand was a pretty amazing step up by the D in support of the Major.

(I thought try 2 broke the plane, and that Wilson's TD didn't, but hey, we can get calls too, right?)

The "Reverse Crumback" was a gooder
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

Maybe Tony Jones will figure out his role on SY plays as a Bighill style diver but they haven't yet found the replacement for Shayne Gauthier as the immovable force in goal line stands, perhaps this is a role Connor Shay can fulfill. Gauthier wasn't overly big but he must have been beastly strong to hold his ground so well.

On Barnes' second sneak attempt:
-   When he rolls out of the pile after the play we see the ball in his left hand
-   After the commercial break, TSN showed a replay from a slightly different angle and it is clear that Barnes had his left arm at his side with his hand (and football) at hip level. Barnes' upper body was over the goal line but his midsection wasn't.
-   I can see why it wasn't a TD and there was little to no protest from Ottawa.

On the Wilson TD:
-   He caught the ball at the goal line and if the ball broke the plane it was just by the nose of the ball
-   My initial thought was that it would be better to not score the TD and go first & goal from the one yard line to burn some time off the clock. That thought was echoed by Derek Taylor.
-   Yes, the ruling on the play was in favour of the Blue Bombers but it really benefitted the RedBlacks more.

Possibly. On the other hand, if the Ottawa kick had of been more "normal" and our return more "normal" it may have given enough time for Wpg. to get the winning points.
