Quote from: bwiser on August 16, 2024, 02:40:14 PMI wonder if Ottawa has a QB controversy when Brown is ready to return. Maybe Brown might become available.I am sure the Bombers would be interested if Ottawa decides to go with Missoli.
If that happened and Collaros calls it quits Brown back here could be a dream!
I LOSHT MY MEMBER IN AN UNFORTUNATE SHMELTING ACCSHIDENT!

Quote from: Blue In BC on August 16, 2024, 03:30:45 PMWell maybe but a lot can happen between then and now. If the Redblacks continue to have a successful 2024 and into 2025, why would he leave. He'd be entrenched as the # 1. Going back to Winnipeg would be a totally different team ( roster wise ).

If the Bombers win the 2025 Grey Cup and the Redblacks finish last, that could change decisions etc etc.

You can never tell what will happen in free agency if players actually reach free agency.

Just my hopes and dreams. I'm sad that the best QB we've ever developed didn't line up with the end of Zach's career. I want him to carry on the torch and keep this thing going after our home Grey Cup win in '25.

I'd rather have Tre Ford, tbh, but Brown isn't a bad choice either.

I don't think I would, but that's not on the table. If Ford leaves Edmonton it's after this current season.

Danny McManus says "hi I guess you are too young to remember me.."

Dieter Brock says hi as well. But sure in the last 25 years of so, Brown looks like he's going to become a really good QB.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back after 2025, but who knows what happens before that. Maybe Wilson is the " next " great young QB.

Well, and then there was a guy named Ralph Dieter. And others.

But, Dru is the best we've developed lately, for sure.

I have only been watching and understanding the bombers since about 1979...

I can't speak to a guy like Kenny Ploen as I didn't see him play or follow his progression.

Who really is the BEST QB we have developed?  Best has to include the usual QB Stats plus wins and championships.

Was McManus a better Qb than Brock?  He has more yards passing, more championships- played lots longer

I am 100% too young to remember those guys. But if you have to reach back decades for the nearest example, I'm comfortable with my claim.

I will do you one better - I got to see Ploen play at Univ of Iowa. I got to go to the games as a reward for delivering papers for the Des Moines Register. I got to see Bobby Jeter, Kenny Ploen, Ray Jauch and a lot more I can not remember. It was a great experience.

How in the world did Acklin come up with the ball when I thought for sure Demario Houston had it picked?

Here is the catch I'm alluding to ...

Questions like that are complex. McManus was brought to the CFL by the Bombers. He showed a lot of promise but was lost in free agency to the Lions. He was not immediately successful until he went to the Esks. Then he continued his success in Hamilton.

OTOH, Brock became the starter very early and continued as a starter during his time in Winnipeg. In that sense he was developed in Winnipeg where as McManus only gained success post departure.

Brock had that last CFL year in Hamilton and then a season with the Rams. He had one of the strongest arms in the CFL and even won arm wrestling competitions against big OL and DL. I suppose he a more physical player than McManus while McManus was possible a better QB in the long run.

That has nothing to do with length of career. Everything depends on what your measuring stick uses to gauge " best ".

K.Ploen spent his entire career in Winnipeg and played multiple positions before landing the starting role as a QB. I'd say he was the most athletic QB that was developed in Winnipeg. Multiple Grey Cup wins and a few losses.

Before my time but check the info on Jack Jacobs. Outstanding and another player that played multiple positions which was common in that era.

Jimmy Van Pelt I did see him play in the same era as Ploen. Also a player that did multiple things.

Man those were the days
