Sayles was so so in the cfl, and on the small size for the nfl, why would the nfl give him a look??

For a CFL rookie he certainly did not look bad at all. He's a player I'm excited to see next season

You might be right about Sayles NFL opportunities but I disagree with you about his performance last season, in limited reps. he did quite well, contributing 28 DT and 5 QB sacks is very good for a rotating DT.  His numbers, like Jakes may be inflated playing beside Stove, but nonetheless his motor runs high and he seems to always makes **** happen.

Sayles made 19 of his tackles with Stove out of the lineup. However 4 of his 5 sacks were with Stove in the lineup.

Walker also played good for his very limited playing time. 7 games, 8 tackles and 1 sack.

Our run D is much better with Richardson in the lineup.

Sayles was a DI not a starter per se. Jeffcoat and Jefferson are over 30 years of age. Only Richardson is younger than Sayles so it's not a surprise that he's getting a look by NFL teams and the others aren't.

I don't think it makes much sense to rank DTs and DEs together,  you are looking at different skill sets and different body types.

Having said that, my impression is that CFL DTs don't get NFL looks all that often, so I am surprised Sayles would draw interest.  DEs are much more likely to get a look, thinking back to guys like Cam Wake, Philip Hunt, Shawn Lemon, etc.

Being a rookie and 4th out of 4 when considering our dline doesn't mean much.

No one has said he got any interest, I believe a user just speculated that

WINNIPEG, MB., January 6, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the team has signed American receiver Blake Jackson.

Jackson (5-11, 200, Mary Hardin-Baylor, March 7, 1994 in Houston, TX) was having a promising training camp with the club in 2021 prior to suffering a season ending injury. Previous to signing with Winnipeg in 2021, he was with Houston of the XFL. He spent parts of 2018 on Cleveland's roster, seeing action in one game. Jackson played three seasons as a quarterback at Mary Hardin-Baylor, completing 311 of 487 pass attempts for 4,311 yards. He threw 49 touchdowns and led the Crusaders to a Division III national championship as a senior and was named Southwest Conference offensive player of the year and an all-American. Jackson also attended Calgary Stampeders training camp in 2018.

BLUE BOMBERS EXTEND CONTRACT OF OFFENSIVE LINEMAN JERMARCUS HARDRICK

WINNIPEG, MB., January 6, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed all-star American offensive tackle Jermarcus Hardrick to a one-year contract extension.

Hardrick was scheduled to become a free agent next month.

Hardrick (6-5, 320, University of Nebraska; born: May 30, 1990 in Batesville, MS) returns to the Blue Bombers for a sixth season in 2022. He has appeared in 98 regular-season CFL games, including 78 as a member of the Blue Bombers, 12 with the B.C. Lions in 2014 and eight with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2015.

An emotional leader and consistent presence at right tackle for the Blue Bombers since 2016, Hardrick was part of an offensive line that helped Winnipeg lead the CFL in scoring, surrender the fewest quarterback sacks and finish second in rushing.

His work was recognized as he was named a West Division All-Star for a second time, after also being honoured in 2017, and then selected to the CFL All-Star Team for the first time in his career.

Hardrick began his college days at Fort Scott Community College before transferring to Nebraska. He had tryouts with Tampa Bay and New Orleans before coming north to the CFL.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed star defensive end Willie Jefferson to a contract extension, per sources.

Jefferson has been a CFL all-star four straight seasons, the last two of those in the Manitoba capital while playing a vital role in the back-to-back Grey Cup championships won by the Bombers in 2019 and 2021. He was scheduled to hit the open market on Tuesday, February 8.

The six-foot-seven, 252-pound man with a seven-foot wingspan was a major disruptor for one of the best defences in CFL history. Jefferson notched 18 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, two interceptions and scored one defensive touchdown last year. The Blue Bombers allowed 13.4 points per game during the shortened 14-game regular season in 2021 while posting a league-best 11-3 record.

The 30-year-old earned $205,000 because he agreed to a restructured contract after originally being due to make $265,000. It's expected his new deal will put him back in that range and make him the highest paid defensive player in the CFL. The threat of leaving Winnipeg to rejoin forces with Chris Jones gave Jefferson even more leverage than he already had in negotiations.

Jefferson posted a career-high 12 sacks, forced six fumbles and knocked down a CFL single-season record 16 passes in 2019. He also added 24 tackles, five tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and one interception. During the 107th Grey Cup, No. 5 was a one-man wrecking crew recording three sacks and forcing two fumbles to help the Blue Bombers upset Hamilton 33-12, hoisting the CFL's championship trophy for the first time in 29 years.

Through 108 CFL games, Jefferson has 169 tackles, 50 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, five interceptions and four defensive touchdowns. General manager Kyle Walters locks in one of the most productive and difficult defenders to game-plan against in the three-down league for a run at a three-peat in The Peg.

Well, looks like just the fourth corner of the best trenches in the leauge is left unsigned.  No doubt he will be the highest paid Int OLineman in the league, but just how much can we afford? Any idea what is off season / post football career aspirations are?

I like Walters but he sure went off the deep end with the original Bighill ($250,000) and Jefferson ($265,000) contracts, he's fortunate Collaros fell in his lap and helped him win two Cups, or he could easily have been left standing in Brendan Taman's shoes.  It's all good now, but I believe he dodged a bullet, these two contracts could have sunk him if Willie and Bigs hadn't agreed to massive discounts.

BOMBERS AGREE TO TERMS ON EXTENSION WITH CFL ALL-STAR WILLIE JEFFERSON

WINNIPEG, MB., January 7, 2021 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a new 1-year contract with all-star American defensive end Willie Jefferson.

Jefferson (6-7, 252, Stephen F. Austin; born: January 31, 1991 in Beaumont, TX) returns to the Bombers after posting superb numbers in both 2019 and 2021 in helping the team capture back-to-back Grey Cup championships.

The 2022 season will be Jefferson's third with the Bombers and eighth in the Canadian Football League.

The CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player and a league all-star in 2019 in his first year with the Bombers, Jefferson followed that up in 2021 with another berth on the CFL All-Star squad after recording seven quarterback sacks, 18 tackles, two interceptions - including one for a touchdown - and three forced fumbles as part of a historically-stingy defensive unit.

In his two years with the Bombers Jefferson has 19 sacks, three interceptions and nine forced fumbles in just 32 games. Jefferson also set a league record for defensive linemen in 2019 when he had 16 pass knockdowns.

Jefferson first came to the CFL with Edmonton in 2014 and after two years there then signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2016, spending the next three seasons there. He signed a two-year contract extension with the Bombers in February of 2020 and that deal was set to expire next month.

He has played in 108 regular-season games in his career with Winnipeg, Saskatchewan and Edmonton, recording 50 sacks while being named to the CFL All-Star team four times. He also now has three Grey Cup championships to his name, having won in 2021 and 2019 with the Blue Bombers and 2015 with Edmonton.

Jeffcoat racked up a career-best nine quarterback sacks this past season to lead the Blue Bombers in that department, while forcing a Canadian Football League-best four fumbles and adding 26 tackles - six behind the line of scrimmage - while also registering two pass knockdowns. He then added two more tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in the Bombers two playoff games, including the 108th Grey Cup victory in Hamilton.

His regular-season totals saw him earn spots on both the West Division and CFL All-Star teams for the first time in his career.

He now has 26 sacks and 106 tackles in 52 regular-season games with the Blue Bombers and played a critical role in the team's back-to-back championships.

A star during his college days with the Longhorns where he was a Consensus All-American and the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, Jeffcoat joined the Bombers in 2017 after stints in the NFL with Seattle, Washington and Cleveland.
