He must suffer from short term memory loss. Especially after his comments on third down nation. He must of forgot about his DUI he had and how we supported him. Then he also had injuries in his time in Winnipeg. Then he bolts to Edmonton cause he was chasing the $ and then returns cause he found out it wasn't any greener on the other side. I think he should think about his past before he speaks.

Sir Blue and Gold

For those that don't want to Google the comment:

"Y'all signed Dillon Mitchell before me," Lawler told the newspaper. "Who wouldn't (feel disrespected)?"

"I didn't know that I was going to be leaving Winnipeg," Lawler said. "I always thought there would be light at the end of the tunnel at the end of free agency that we'd get something done but nothing got done and nothing ever got figured out."

--

Does anyone really disagree with him? Maybe Dillon Mitchell lol. Too bad that realistically Mitchell won't be able to do anything about it because it's Streveler shotputting passes around Hamilton Stadium tonight.

He choose to accept contract offers from the TiCats in the tampering window. What did he expect the Bombers to do when he choose to test his opportunities?

Sour grapes on his part.

Does he forget his Edmonton foray, and his comments on his return "Home"?

Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice....

No issues with the Bombers actions in the Lawler case.

Probably just his way to fire himself up but I think he should be a bit more grateful for his time here. It's not like we under paid him. We gave him his shot. Lots of players have left for the money without any bitterness.

OK, this is what I thought happened, too.

Didn't Lawler leave again when he got a big offer and we were left to figure out what to do without him in the picture? Or was this another case of "the Bombers didn't even call me"?

He could have spoken with Walters to see what their plan was on his own. Many players tested free agency during the tampering window. That's what it's for and I don't think many of those player went back to their original team?

No sure what he's complaining about. Isn't he the highest paid receiver in the league?

Wouldn't have mattered, Goveia knew what he was going to offer Kenny and he knew Walters had no intention of matching it.  By giving up on Lawler it allowed Walters cash flow to participate in FA after sitting out the last few years, instead of gambling it all on a single player he spread the risk over multiple players, some have worked out some have not and some are to be determined.

There's more to Lawler's complaint, from the Free Press article.

Now a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Lawler said he didn't receive a contract offer from the Bombers until a day before free agency opened at the start of February. His agent only had two brief conversations with Winnipeg, where the club was more focused on gauging the market value for a receiver of his calibre.

For Lawler, there was a more personal issue that needed to be addressed.

The two-time division all-star from Pomona, Calif. — who moved his family up to Winnipeg — had been doing some work on the side helping the city's grassroots football scene before running into a roadblock.

"It's not that (the Bombers) didn't want me to do it — they wanted me to do it under them. They closed my work permit," Lawler explained.

"I have my own business where I go and run camps and I was starting to do that and was getting momentum and when I had to get my work permit closed it was like, 'hmm, why is this happening?' You know what I want to do, I live here in Winnipeg, the full year, and if I am going to be taking a pay cut, which I was doing when I was in Winnipeg the whole time, I'm going to need something else to be able to supplement that. It's not that I need it, it's that I want to be able to start it so when I'm done with football I can still live where I'm at and transition right into something else and someone wasn't seeing that."

When asked who, specifically, wasn't on board, Lawler responded with: "I think that's a question you might have to ask them. And it probably wouldn't be to anyone that you could probably get an (interview from)."

I would have characterized Walters free agency as a giant fail. Who has worked out? Maybe Vaughters, who has a grand total of 3 sacks in 12 games but that's debatable. He's making about 100,000 over the minimum. Mitchell is a bust, as is Logan, and both are making way over the minimum (Mitchel 85,000, Logan about 50,000 over I think). J Jones is by all accounts a good player, but we really have little need for yet another Import LB, and he's making 50,000 over the minimum, and has almost never made it onto the roster. Together, they make about 285,000 over the minimum. Package them all together in a trade for Lawler? I'd do that in a heartbeat, but Ticats would have no interest. 20/20 hindsight? Yes. But Walters gets paid well to make the correct decisions, and he didn't.
