Edmonton Elks without Jordan Murray for Battle of Alberta rematch

The Edmonton Elks will be without their starting right tackle for their rematch with the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.

Jordan Murray has been placed on the six-game injured list after being unable to practice this week due to a foot issue. A key free-agent acquisition who came over from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, he has started every game this season for the Elks.

Murray will be replaced by American rookie Joe Cooper, who has previously started one game at guard. The six-foot-seven, 320-pound blocker was a three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection, a consensus Division II All-American, and was a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award in 2025.

In addition to the change up front, the Elks will be without two key depth contributors in American linebacker Brock Mogensen (hamstring) and Canadian receiver Carter Kettyle (hamstring). Zach Mathis will dress in the receiving corps, while Global linebacker Eteva Mauga-Clements makes his return from injury in place of Mogensen.

Global defensive lineman Richard Jibunor has been returned to the practice roster, and Canadian defensive lineman Noah Curtis has been placed on the reserve roster. American defensive end Elijah Alston will be called up to the lineup, while 2026 second-round pick Benji Sangmuah will make his CFL debut after suffering a knee injury in the preseason.

The Edmonton Elks (9-3) will host the Calgary Stampeders (5-7) at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, September 12, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The two teams met in the Labour Day Classic last week, where the Elks won 38-28 at McMahon Stadium after rallying in the fourth quarter.

Reggie Begelton returns for Calgary Stampeders against Edmonton Elks

The Calgary Stampeders will have Reggie Begelton in the starting lineup this weekend when they take on the Edmonton Elks. The team released its official depth chart on Friday morning.

The 33-year-old hasn't played since he suffered a fractured leg during an early-season win over the Toronto Argonauts in 2025. This will be his first game in 15 months.

The Stampeder played coy with Begelton's status throughout training camp, but quietly renegotiated his contract at the end of May with the understanding that a return was not imminent. Dickenson later revealed that Begelton's injury had been more severe than the team initially thought and that he was "not that close" to being ready.

Begelton drew praise from Dickenson when he first returned to individual activities in Week 5, but he was not cleared for active duty and was designated for a second stint on the six-game injured list. He has been a full participant in practice for the past three weeks in anticipation of his return.

The three-time All-CFL selection has been a longtime standout with the Stampeders, making 427 catches for 5,660 yards and 28 touchdowns over 88 regular-season games, and winning one Grey Cup.

Begelton will be able to make his return after Canadian receiver Ajou Ajou was placed on the six-game injured list with a neck issue. Former first overall CFL Draft pick Damien Alford will give up his starting spot but remain on the roster.

On the other side of the ball, the Stampeders will be without two key defensive starters. Standout rookie halfback Zy Alexander (shoulder) has been placed on the one-game injured list, while weak-side linebacker Kyle Wilson (bicep) will go on the six-game. 2026 first-round pick Eric Rascoe (hamstring) has also been placed back on the six-game after a brief return last week.

Rookie American BoPete Keyes draws into the lineup at Alexander's boundary halfback spot, while Canadian defensive back Anton Haie will dress for insurance. Kelechi Anyalebechi moves into the starting linebacker job, with Canadian Terrence Ganyi providing additional depth.

Calgary has also swapped out Canadian defensive linemen, dressing the recently acquired Collin Kornelson and sending rookie Tristan Marois back to the practice roster.
