It's stakeholders giving Johnston the middle finger. It's them saying the changes are dumb. If they were good, they'd happily adopt them to keep things uniform. They would use their leverage to get the CFL to pay for most of it.

You're downplaying the rift. Name one other way the field and post differ between u and CFL. It's kind of the basis for everything, not some minor clock tweak. Does the field or post differ between NCAA and NFL? Didn't think so.

Bringing up the popularity of u sports is a straw man and red herring. Canada has never had a football culture like the USA. Imagine a team that is 100% nats, and then subtract around 5 years of development. Not that many are interested, and post placement is irrelevant to that.

There was never a chance they'd adopt the changes. There's no money to do so and the CFL couldn't afford to change all the fields in the country even if they wanted to.

Maybe. But one thing is for sure, if u had followed the CFL with the field changes, then the changes would be set in stone. The fact they didn't means that the CFL change is reversible. Johnston could get sane, or fired, and there's nothing stopping us from going back to the real field.

I hope it's reversible because I think the changes are stupid. But the opinions of fans or amateur football were not a part of the equation so this doesn't have any impact.

If the changes were tied to the TV deal, it doesn't matter how much we complain unless the tv numbers are a huge failure over the next few years. I don't think fans will stop watching though.

League attendance is virtually the same (down 2% from 2025 after week 13). We obviously weren't going to sell out forever and Ottawa's has gone down a bit.

But these decisions were made without considering attendance. The league itself does not care about individual teams' attendance. They are after TV, sponsors, and gambling revenue. That is the looking glass they are viewing this through.

And I'd guess another 3 to 5% in 2028, because there are people who don't yet know, who will have bought 2027 STH seats before week 1. They'll be stuck attending even if they hate it. They won't renew in 2028.

If making every stadium look as well attended as cgy is the acceptable collateral damage, then Johnston is all set to succeed!

Regina was looking at painted lines for their new field as the stitched lines have prevented the stadium from hosting FIFA matches.

It would look like garbage but they do make multi-sport fields where both markers are always on there. No way to get around moving the goal posts every game though. Not to mention the "dead" seats that creates.

The Winnipeg Whips in the early 70s played out of the South endzone. The Bombers relocated their locker room and offices to where the home plate area used to be.

Growing up, the Goldeyes were within walking distance
That started in the 1960's in the Northern League.
Our boys were a High level farm team for the St. Louis Cardinals. Was even lucky enough to see the Cardinals play an exhibition game here which brought the super star Stan Musial. Got his autograph, which sadly is long gone.
Anyway, thinking mid 70's they folded, only to return as the Winnipeg Whips. They all played in Southern end.
Many years later they played a couple seasons outta the N. End.

Weren't the Whips a farm club of the Expos?  I vaguely remember receiving a baseball cap that had both logos on it.
