Cool Spot

Yeah, this. We often say "hindsight is 20/20" but I feel like this was really obvious at the time. Having said that, there were other clock management issues:

- At the end of first half, Calgary had 8 seconds left on the clock, deep in BC's end. The play broke down, Vernon Adams should have just thrown it away after a few seconds to preserve a couple seconds left to try for a FG.

- (Not a time management issue, but an execution issue) Calgary's fumble off the kick return in the final two minutes changed the face of the game. They went from having two minutes to do something with the ball to being down an almost certain 3 points.

- Finally, I'm not sure BC is off-the-hook, either. On that same drive, the Lions were on second down with 1:17 or so left on the clock. They tried for a pass that went incomplete which stopped the clock. Had they run the ball, they could have taken the clock down to 0:58 plus a few seconds for the play itself, and then taken the clock down to maybe 0:30 - 0:35 on the ensuing FG. Yes, that would have left Calgary with enough time (I mean, BC had the same amount of time and they ended up winning), but that would have put a different type of pressure on Calgary as they would have had much less time to work with.

Quote from: dd on November 02, 2025, 02:45:38 PMI m thinking Dickenson saw that BC was loading the box to try and stop the run, so they went play action and took some deep shots in an attempt to score a TD. But really, he out-thought himself. Who cares if you score a TD if you leave 40+ seconds on the clock (time that would have been left if they scored a TD), BC still gets the ball. Just run the ball, even if you don't gain anything, which they didn't via passing either, you run the clock to zeros and kick the winning field goal.

It wasn't going to be the winning field goal. His strategy was to go for the win, instead of overtime.
