Edmonton Elks without DL Jared Brinkman against Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Edmonton Elks will be without defensive lineman Jared Brinkman when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday night.

The six-foot-one, 290-pound native of Iowa City, Ia. has been moved to the one-game injured list with injuries to his shoulder and foot. He was a non-participant in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday and a limited participant on Thursday.

The 26-year-old signed with the Elks as a free agent after helping the Toronto Argonauts win last year's Grey Cup. Through 14 regular-season games this season, he has recorded 21 defensive tackles and one sack.

The Elks have also moved Global linebacker Eteva Mauga-Clements to the one-game injured list. The 26-year-old, who was the first overall pick in the 2024 CFL Global Draft, has made two defensive tackles and 10 special teams tackles this year.

Edmonton has promoted defensive lineman Elijah Alston and Global linebacker Alex Raich to the active roster this week. Alston finished his collegiate career at the University of Miami in 2024, recording 19 total tackles, four tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and one pass knockdown, while Raich has made six special teams tackles over six regular-season games this year.

The Edmonton Elks (5-9) will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (10-3) on Saturday, September 27 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Roughriders were on a bye this past week, while the Elks suffered a heartbreaking walk-off loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The weather forecast in Edmonton calls for a high of 18 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 620 CKRM in Regina and 880 CHED in Edmonton.

Marcus Sayles, Samuel Emilus return for Saskatchewan Roughriders against Elks

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will have defensive back Marcus Sayles and Canadian receiver Samuel Emilus in the starting lineup when the visit the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday night.

Sayles has recorded 41 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and two interceptions over 11 regular-season games with the Roughriders this season, his second with the club. He was out of the lineup due to a leg injury last game when Kerfalla Exumé struggled against Tyson Philpot, who made nine catches for 238 yards and two touchdowns.

Emilus hasn't played since July due to a knee injury. The former first-round pick, who hails from Montreal, Que., has recorded 25 catches for 361 yards and two touchdowns over just four games this season.

The Riders have also added veteran receiver Shawn Bane Jr., Canadian offensive lineman Philippe Gagnon, and Global punter Jesse Mirco to the active roster. Bane Jr. hasn't played since last summer when he suffered a torn LCL and partially torn ACL, while Gagnon suffered a torn bicep during training camp. The veteran of 99 career regular-season CFL games will make his Saskatchewan debut after joining the team in free agency.

Return specialist Mario Alford has been placed on the one-game injured list, which makes it appear as though Bane Jr. will handle return duties.

Canadian offensive linemen Zack Fry and Braydon Noll are both out. Fry is on the six-game injured list with a knee problem, while Noll and Global punter Joe Couch have been demoted to the practice squad.

2Q9:17 EDM gets an offside on D, but the guy who jumped is pointing to Yoshi like he moved. And he did. Yoshi almost ALWAYS, even when here, does this head-bob thing as he goes down into his stance, like he has some muscle or neuro issue that basically makes it so he has trouble staying still.

The EDM guy rightfully is pointing this out as technically Yoshi is committing IP on 80% of snaps.

I quietly accepted it when Yoshi was in WPG, but I say throw the book at him now. EDM HC should complain about this. It's clear on film Yoshi is moving pre-snap. Why is he the only one allowed to do this?

CRYDERS come to town in a few weeks. We will see if this is a real turnaround or a one game aberration. Hoping they finally are finding their mojo as a team.

Carter that horrid Ottawa game, I did not expect this kind of response. Maybe they were embarrassed royally by that performance and leaders stepped up and said enough is enough!

4Q15:52 the fumble challenge: so stupid. Handled completely differently than every other instance in the CFL the last 5 years. This is classic "forward progress", where the whistle was blown because the DB had the REC fully wrapped up, and pushing him backwards, and the REC making no more progress. Classic dead play "forward progress".

Doesn't matter the whistle sounded just after the fumble occurred. The forward-progress play-dead moment is when the ref's head thinks it, not when the whistle goes.

This is a complete reversal and upheaval compared to what has been the norm for years. And I don't like it.

I don't always agree with your takes in these type of incidences Tech., but in this instance I 100% do (hey, it happens). Completely blown call. It was forward progress stopped before the fumble. Full stop. They must have been having a little nap up there.
