Koepke back for two more years . At $1.45M per. Good 3rd/4th. line player.

Koepke, though, there's a guy that must be resigned.  Energy line perfection.  He will get lots of offers, no doubt, if we don't nail him down.

I would like to have Comrie back, we should have sufficient cap to make him a very competitive offer.

Very happy, surprised it was the first deal signed.

Now, how do we make Helly happy?  Can we, or can we get a good goaler, a 2nd C, some D prospects and a first rounder for him?
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

It is far more important to Chipman the Helle and Scheif are career Jets than anything else.

Quote from: Jesse on April 18, 2026, 05:16:38 PMHeard that at the trade deadline. It was a mistake to sign him in the first place, imo. Chipman's been trying to get him since the Jets came back to Winnipeg, but the version of Toews that left the Blackhawks was never going to be a helpful asset.

Chipman's fixation on Toews is pretty odd, especially when you consider Toews' professional struggles the last handful of years. I also don't understand why he'd get a say in personnel decisions; he's not management.

Toews was a reliable bottom six/powerplay centre who still kills in the dot, but he's not worth $2M AAV. The experiment to put him at 2C was a colossal failure and now the team really has to get that second line situation sorted out if they want to remain competitive in the Central.

At the right price, I could see him back for another season. But only if it doesn't hinder the roster.

You have to understand that the day we got the Jets back in 2010, Chipman was on the phone with Chevy asking him how hard would it be to get Toews in a Jets uniform. He wanted it from day 1.

You also have to realize that Chipman calls Chevy every day. That he is in the room during draft day and in as many meetings as his schedule allows. He has a role in all decisions. People who think Chevy's time is up don't realize that Chipman is a part of this and isn't going to fire Chevy for decisions they make together.

Toews also made 4.75 million this year and could have made up to 7 million if the team had fared better. It is an atrocious contract.

That's all incredibly problematic, then. Chipman isn't a hockey mind.

I completely agree on the Toews' contract.

The Toews contract had too many "I'm here" incentives.

It needs to be Performance incentive laden, if he hits goals, assists, team wins when he plays, etc.  Maybe a X%+ FO incentive, with x number of face offs.  And they all need to be extraordinary numbers to reach.

With a $1mil base.  He deserves $1mil just for being on the roster.

He will gladly take that deal.
