Putting aside how last year ended and losing Ehlers, it just kind of sucks that our replacement/improvement strategy rests on a couple of 36+ year olds to come in and somehow make us better?

It's definitely not better lol. As far as the new additions in the bottom six go, it's essentially a wash with the guys they replaced. I'd be far more excited if we just inserted one our prospects. At least I'd be sorta excited then.

Essentially, it's Toews "in" for Ehlers. It's a net loss to no one's surprise. I'm a fan of the Toews signing for the intangibles but as a bolster, not replacement.

I would keep Iaffalo on the second line due to his speed and skill and keep Nino in his 3LW spot. I'm high on him and he's not Ehlers but he shines if he gets top talent around him. Toews will need that if he's to get to form. Speaking of, I'd also keep Namest as 2C and Toews as 3C in Lowry's spot until he's back, just to give him time to get to gamespeed. Iaffalo-Namestnikov-Perfetti is a speed line that will better hide the Ehlers loss. Although the argument can be made that our second line was consistently inconsistent all last year and so maybe a shake up is what we need there.

Toews is a centre, though. I think Nyquist is the replacement for Ehlers.

Speaking of Gus: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/gustav-nyquist-joins-winnipeg-jets-in-hopes-of-stanley-cup-1.2333271

He's certainly saying all the rights things.

That's why I used quotations. In terms of higher end talent, we lost Ehlers and we gained Toews. The other additions are largely inconsequential. I am suggesting that Iaffalo would be the best patch job we could do to fill the Ehlers vacancy on a positional level. A drop off though nonetheless no matter how you slice it.

My guess, and I hope to be at TC to watch, is that Nyquist is given all kinda of chances to bond with Fetts and Toews.
In lieu of our captain not being available, Names goes in between
Iaffalo and Niedereiter.
Like how it showed Fleury as a bottom pairing dman

Interesting that the excluded Stanley, Heinola and Miller, all under contract for 25-26 from the roster...

You can flip Ned and Iafallo up or down, not sure it matters, neither is going to replace Ehlers.  The key will be if Toews can be 2C, and how he works with Fetts.

Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

There is going to be some tough decision come later this summer. Can't see Stan and Heinola with this team. The Jets probably try and move Gus also. Nyquist with a 120 points over the last 2 seasons could a key player for the Jets. NE27 124 points over the last 2 season.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.
