My guess would be that REC Gavin Cobb comes on if Demski can't go.

American rookie Mark Evans II to start for Edmonton Elks following OL injury shuffle
By 3Down Staff -June 25, 2025

The Edmonton Elks will field a new combination up front for their matchup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday.

After centre David Beard was placed on the six-game injured list earlier this week with a calf injury, veteran Canadian Mark Korte will shift over to occupy the role he's held in Edmonton for the past several seasons. That leaves a hole at left guard that will be filled by rookie American Mark Evans II.

The 26-year-old product of Arkansas-Pine Bluff is making his second start of the season after stepping in at right tackle for Brett Boyko in the opener. Canadian rookie Jaxon Morkin will also dress as the seventh offensive lineman to preserve the ratio.

Defensively, the Elks are undergoing a similar shuffle in the secondary. Following the release of offseason signee Emmanuel Rugamba, Kordell Jackson will move to boundary halfback after making consecutive starts at strong-side linebacker. Rookie Chelen Garnes will slide into that spot after making three defensive tackles in a backup role last week, while Kenneth Logan Jr. comes off the practice roster to provide insurance.

The Edmonton Elks (0-2) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-0) at Princess Auto Stadium on Thursday, June 26 with kickoff slated for 8:30 p.m. EDT. The current weather forecast calls for mainly sunny conditions with a temperature of 25 degrees and a 10 percent chance of showers.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and can be streamed on CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 880 CHED in Edmonton or 680 CJOB in Winnipeg.

Game 3: Elks (0-2) at Blue Bombers (2-0)

Kickoff:
Thursday, June 26th, 7:30 p.m. CDT; Princess Auto Stadium, Winnipeg
TV/Streaming: TSN, RDS, CBS SportsNetwork; CFL+
Radio: 680 CJOB (pre-game begins at 5:30 p.m. CDT); Play-by-play: Derek Taylor/analyst: Doug Brown; Sirius XM (ch. 167)

THE LINEUP: The Blue Bombers depth chart does not feature any changes for this week, although receiver Nic Demski does have a 'GTD' — game-time decision — designation. Demski was nicked in Saturday's win over B.C., a game in which he extended his consecutive games streak with at least one reception to 73 and did not practice on Tuesday according to the daily injury report. If Demski can't go, the Blue Bombers could start 2025 draft pick Joey Corcoran or activate veteran Gavin Cobb.

It also means running back Brady Oliveira — the CFL's Most Outstanding Player and Canadian a year ago — will not be suiting up for a second straight game. He remains on the one-game injured list along with KR/RB Peyton Logan, LS Mike Benson, LB Jonathan Jones, WR Dillon Mitchell, DT Tanner Schmekel and OL Micah Vanterpool.

DT Jamal Woods, DBs Jake Kelly and Enock Makonzo and OL Eric Lofton are all on the six-game injured list.

Me too, some don't like it but it's the heart of this league imo.  One of the Elks priorities was Cdn talent and it will serve them well in the future.

Weitz plays again, clearly the Bomber brass like what they see.  I bet he is doing well on ST.  Interesting to see if he gets reps on D this week.

Ya, no poop DT... Junkie told us the rule and it allows subbing on one PR player for the 1 GTD if he doesn't play.  And since Demski is a starting NAT, that means a NAT REC would have to come on.  And I'm pretty sure the only one with a hope in heck of not drowning is Cobb.

But you know what, I've watched MOS's "GTD" results for a long time now, and they almost always play.  It's more a "nya nya you won't know for realz until KO" ploy more than an indication of anything.  I'd be shocked if Demski doesn't play.

Quote from: Throw Long Bannatyne on June 25, 2025, 04:18:33 PMThis game is not mega important and there are reasonable backup options available

But it is divisional.  Every divisional game is important.  +2 for us and effectively -2 for them come year end vs us.

Plus, I'm of the mind that you make sure you win against the weak teams, rather than have to get the same +2 against the powerhouses.  Ya, we've often done the opposite, doing things the hard way!

The only thing that would make it more "mega" is if it was one of the teams that might tie or beat us by week 21, because then the tie breaker would be more important.

Quote from: Blue In BC on June 25, 2025, 03:32:30 PMIn theory that CAN'T happen since Mitchell is on the 1 game IR. You can't add a player from the IR on game day. A change would mean it would have to come from the PR meaning Cobb or Case or even both as choices.

Is he on IR?  And you sure he can't get the nod if Demski is decided NO?  I'm sure you're right, but...  The reason I ask is it seems rather goofy he can practice all week (was shown as FULL in the injury report!), but then not suddenly dress before KO?  Seems like a weird quirk of roster/GTD rules.

Does anyone know how those will be distributed?  I always enter through the middle tailgate, and anytime there's a giveaway there are missing from there.  I often have to go to a "real" gate once inside the stadium proper and explain to the people there that I didn't get on already... sometimes to strange, incredulous looks.

from the Bombers X account:

They will be given away at both the tailgate area and the main gates. Thanks!

Yes he's on the 1 game IR. He's also exceed the number of imports even if he came of the PR. Canadian out, needs a Canadian added in.

So it's pretty much Cobb as the choice.
One game at a time.
