Not really. Players take their helmets off often when evaluating a possible injury or inspecting / adjusting their helmet.

Quote from: TecnoGenius on August 23, 2024, 05:59:39 AMRiderfans pointing out SSK stopped TOR 3 times at their 1 YL?  Not 3 stops on 3 downs, 3 separate series, each with the end result of a stop.

Is this true?  Was it really 3?  I lost count at the pathetic display of patheticness.

Junkie: does that make it a new CFL record?  I don't mean SY stopes anywhere on the field: just GL stands specifically.  I certainly have never seen it.

Tip to TOR: just sneak it behind the RG or LG!!  Stop this edge stuff!

The fact the Rider D-line did not get called for any offsides during 3 goal line stands is fairly impressive.

Yeah, the finally kicked a FG on the 4th effort near the goal line. I think they lost a yard or 2 and it was 3rd and 3.

Could be confused it happened so often. I don't remember that ever happening in one game to the same team. Very odd but impressive defence by the Riders. It was helped by not very good offence play calls by the Argos on short plays.

Tecno, you may be right about that (non)penalty on Kelly. But what shocks me more is that you haven't taken us through the play frame by frame, at least not as yet. I guess that falls to me with my comparatively primitive equipment.

As we see from the angle they only showed ONCE, the arm/shoulder came up and I believe did hit Kelly in the chin.  The other replays they showed did not have that arm visible.

Made up for that farce of a game of Wpg vs Sask many weeks ago....that was A TOTAL HOSE JOB! :(

Quote from: TecnoGenius on August 23, 2024, 06:14:16 AMThe holding is in-shot, but it's a blurry motion-filled spidercam shot, so numbers and fouls are hard to make out.

In front of 28 is an illegal block back-push from SSK 26.  I would pick that as the more obvious call, basically at the point of attack.

SSK 28's hold is weak sauce, but it is right at the point of attack and he does have his arm around his front and twisting the TOR guy.  Then, probably the dumbest move, is he does the universal sign for "I just committed a penalty" of putting both hands up trying to pretend he's innocent.  The clincher is the carrier is basically already falling down when when he does that!  Double doh.

You know what's strange?  I think SSK still had a challenge, and they did have a TO.  They can challenge a bogus return hold/IB!  Might have been worth it with 57s left.  They would have gained 22Y.  However, I don't think they would win -- there was enough to uphold, and command could overturn the hold and call that more obvious IB!

UNLESS you had your nose right along the turf, a replay can be deceiving depending on the angle. Can you be 150% sure he was out? I don't think so unless you WERE THERE with you head just above the turf when he "stepped" out. Angles can fool you a lot of times even when you ARE RIGHT THERE!

In real time, he look inbounds and I did see his foot sort of "appear" to be out of bounds, but it that split second moment I though the edge of his shoe was slightly in the air. Will I bet 100% on it, no, but this is probably why the command centre did not think it had 100% proof he did step out as I would have vetoed such a call if I was there! :)

Who is 33 for the Bombers? Is that who hit the Hamilton kick returner that coughed up the ball? Is that Jones?

Yes it's Jones and he's been a force on ST's and on defence. Great addition.

Jones is an absolute beast on the field. He gives us a much needed physical presence in the middle of the field. He knocks guys silly all the time!! Love it!!

I think you did a great job!  Sorry for my 2 day delay... I stopped dealing with the SSK game and started getting read for the far more important WPG game!  ;D

Your stills are good, and I like your 'shopped arrow!

What makes me think he got a piece of the helmet is the rapid jerking of Kelly's helmet.  Like the Zach hit a few weeks ago, that's the tell that something hit the helmet... not a jerking after the next moves, but a jerking before anything else moves.

However, the Kelly hit case is even weaker than the Zach one would have been, so good non-challenge.  They still miff me though!  Clearly some head shots are legal as long as you lead with something else.  Smart/nasty DTs will probably take advantage to take out QBs.

You made me have to check:

Rule 7 Fouls & Penalties
Section 4 - Objectionable Conduct
(g) voluntarily removing their helmet after a play while on the field, except during a timeout, or throwing it to the ground...

What Kelly did is a penalty.  The proper action is to take a knee or indicate you are injured, then take off your helmet.  But you are right, they do seem to let this one slide sometimes, eh?

If a team does this playing us, I hope MOS is chirping the heck out of the refs!!

Yes.  150% sure Alexander was OOB.

There are only 2 possibilities from the pictures I provided:
1) I faked them
2) He was OOB

I'm not sure how you can look at those and still think he's not OOB in any manner.  But that's ok!  You can believe and argue whatever you want.  I like conversation!  No joke!

Quote from: ichabod_crane on August 24, 2024, 05:11:10 AMIn real time, he look inbounds

100% correct.  In realtime he looked inbounds.  Thus command upholding the TD.  Thus confirming my "no freezeframes" command guidelines theory.

Quote from: ichabod_crane on August 24, 2024, 05:11:10 AMI thought the edge of his shoe was slightly in the air.

I'm not sure how you can think that when looking at my pictures?  Clearly the heel was up in the air.  The front pads of his feet are flat on the ground.  Thus the sharp angle in the arch of his foot/shoe: because his foot was bending severely to start his next stride.

If you're agreeing with the above but saying the front right edge of his foot was somehow in the air and only the front left edge was on the turf... then all we have to do is think about where his weight is pushing on and what kind of pushing his foot is doing to push off for the next stride.  And that would all be on the right-most edge of his foot.  So if anything his right-most edge would be the most firmly-planted on the turf!  Maybe his left-edge could be coming up as he pushes off, but physics would dictate it cannot be the right edge.  And it's the right edge that is touching the sideline.  QED

The clincher is that if this was 2023 they would have 100% overturned that TD and made him run a sneak.  I have zero doubt.  This would have been ideal because then no one would have felt ripped off (SSK fans), and there would be no controversy... and the result would have been the same -- a MTL win!

Riderfans has their undies in a bunch contemplating the end of this game (last week's game now).

1st & 10, SSK has the ball at the SSK 8, 55s on the clock.  TOR with zero timeouts.  Game is tied.

A tells Mace post-game, and many fans agree, there was a way for SSK to make sure TOR doesn't have time to kick a FG by clever clock-bleeding.  Generally bleeding off clock with 2 running plays then a punt (maybe with some goofy running around first?).

Grant would get a chance to return, but even if he goes down fast within (say) the 45YL, it's 0:00 and game over.

Is this tenable?

P.S. Mace gave a rude snide answer & look at being questioned by the mere plebe.  It was a weird presser done by video-call where he looked everywhere except at the camera.
