Edmonton Elks
  @GoElks
Depth chart day! Here is how the Elks will line-up on Friday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Versatile defender Brian Cole returns for Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Elks
By John Hodge -September 26, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have versatile defender Brian Cole back in the lineup when they host the Edmonton Elks on Friday night.

The six-foot-two, 207-pound native of Saginaw, Mi. has missed the team's last seven games due to a foot injury. He dressed for the first seven matchups of the season and made 13 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, and one interception as a hybrid linebacker and defensive back.

The Mississippi State product was a seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2020 NFL Draft and has since been a member of the Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Edmonton Elks. Over 27 career CFL games, he has made 16 defensive tackles, 24 special teams tackles, three forced fumbles, and one interception.

Canadian defensive back Nick Hallett will dress despite not practicing this week due to an ankle injury. The same is true for receiver and return specialist Lucky Whitehead, who also missed practice with an ankle injury this week.

Veteran linebacker Kyrie Wilson, who was injured during warmups of last week's game in Edmonton, has officially been moved to the six-game injured list. Winnipeg has also moved rookie offensive lineman Kendall Randolph, who started in place of Stanley Bryant when he was out of the lineup, to the practice roster while promoting rookie defensive tackle Devin Adams to the active roster.

The Blue Bombers (8-6) will host the Edmonton Elks (5-9) on Friday, Sept. 27 with kickoff slated for 8:00 p.m. EDT. The teams met last week in Edmonton with the Blue Bombers winning by a score of 27-14.

Edmonton Elks without DB Darius Bratton vs. Bombers
By 3Down Staff -September 26, 2024

The Edmonton Elks will be missing an important component of their secondary for their rematch with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Boundary halfback Darius Bratton has been ruled out with a knee injury. The 27-year-old has recorded 31 defensive tackles and three interceptions in his second CFL season, including one takeaway last week from Zach Collaros.

Marcus Lewis
will step into the starting lineup for Bratton. In seven starts this season, primarily at cornerback, the 28-year-old notched 13 defensive tackles and one pick. He amassed four interceptions in his first season as an Elk in 2023. Rookie Jalen Green will also dress as secondary depth following the release of Leon O'Neal Jr.

Canadian receiver Gavin Cobb (thigh) will be unable to go this week after starting the last game in place of Hergy Mayala. Rookie Zach Mathis, who was acquired in June with a first-round supplemental draft pick, will make his first career CFL start.

Canadian linebacker Josiah Schakel will return to the roster for special teams depth, as will defensive lineman/fullback Jacob Plamondon. Rookie Canadian linebacker Olivier Muembi has been placed on the practice roster.

The Edmonton Elks (5-9) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-6) on Friday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers release QB Bryan Scott from practice roster
By John Hodge -September 30, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released American quarterback Bryan Scott from their practice roster.

The six-foot-two, 220-pound passer signed with the Blue Bombers earlier this month following a season-ending injury to backup quarterback Chris Streveler. He was added alongside Jake Dolegala, who previously started games with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and B.C. Lions, who has since earned the third-string role on Winnipeg's depth chart.

Winnipeg also recently brought back rookie quarterback Darren Grainger, who was cut following training camp, adding him to the practice roster. Terry Wilson, the team's rookie backup, took some reps in relief of Zach Collaros during last week's win over the Edmonton Elks, completing one pass for four yards.

Scott was released by the Toronto Argonauts in mid-August following the reinstatement of Chad Kelly. He dressed for nine games in a backup role and completed all five of his pass attempts for 79 yards and a touchdown during his team's loss to Montreal in Week 4.

The native of Rolling Hills, Calif. was a collegiate standout at Occidental College where he threw for 9,073 yards, 77 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions and carried the ball 158 times for 402 yards and 13 touchdowns over 33 games. As a senior, he was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Player of the Year.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-6) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-9) on Friday, Oct. 4 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign offensive lineman Jake Hornibrook
September 30, 2024 Michael Heilman

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed offensive lineman Jake Hornibrook to the practice squad on Monday and released quarterback Bryan Scott from the practice squad.

Jake Hornibrook is six foot five and weighs 300 pounds. The 24-year-old from West Chester, Pennsylvania, attended the Indianapolis Colts rookie minicamp in 2024.

Collegiately, Hornibrook played four seasons at Stanford (2019-22) playing left guard and right guard in 48 games, of which 35 were starts for the Cardinal. He played 2,848 career snaps and was named a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic Honor Roll (2020-22).

Then, Hornibrook transferred to Duke in 2023 playing right tackle and right guard starting 12 games for the Blue Devils. Duke's offense finished the season with 2,174 rushing yards, 2,351 passing yards, and 26 rushing touchdowns, which was tied for the fifth-most in program history.

Duke's offensive line ranked third in the ACC and tied for 24th nationally in sacks allowed per game (1.31), and second in the league and tied for 31st nationally in TFL allowed per outing (4.77).

Bryan Scott
is six foot two and weighs 220 pounds. The 29-year-old from Rolling Hills, California, signed with the Toronto Argonauts on March 1, 2023. In 2023, Scott threw 4 passes against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on September 30, 2023.

In 2024, Scott dressed for nine games. He completed 5 of 5 passes (100%) for 79 yards and one touchdown against the Montreal Alouettes in Week 4. The Argonauts released Scott on August 20, 2024. Scott signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on September 16, 2024, and spent a couple of weeks on the practice squad.

Scott attended the Los Angeles Rams rookie minicamp in 2017. Next, he signed with the B.C. Lions on April 18, 2017, but was released on May 1, 2017. After playing in The Spring League, Scott signed with the Edmonton Eskimos on October 8, 2019, and was placed on the practice squad.

In 2020, Scott played for the Generals (TSL). In the 2020 TSL Championship game against the Aviators, Scott completed 22 of 32 passes (68.8%) for 264 yards and three touchdowns when the Generals won 37-14. He was named the TSL MVP for the second time in his career.

Then, Bryan Scott was drafted by the Philadelphia Stars in the first round (3rd pick) of the 2022 USFL Draft. He played three games for the Stars completing 60 of 85 passes (70.6%) for 558 yards, five touchdowns, two interceptions, nine carries for 23 yards, and one touchdown before suffering a knee and ankle injury against the New Jersey Generals that kept him out for the rest of the season.

After the season, Scott was assigned to the Vegas Vipers (XFL) after his contract with the Stars expired. However, the Vipers released him on January 30, 2023.

Collegiately, Scott played four seasons at Occidental (2013-16) completing 763 of 1,205 completions (63%) for 9,073 yards, 77 touchdowns, 22 interceptions, 158 carries for 402 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 33 games for the Tigers. He was a two-time First Team All-SCIAC (2015-16) and SCIAC Player of the Year (2016).

Nic Demski game-time decision for Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats
By John Hodge -October 3, 2024

Canadian receiver Nic Demski will be a game-time decision for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night.

The 30-year-old native of Winnipeg was a full participant in practice on Tuesday before being limited on Wednesday, according to the team's injury report. He was officially listed as questionable for Friday's game.

The five-foot-eleven, 213-pound target is coming off his best game of the season as he made four catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns in a 55-27 win over the Edmonton Elks. He has caught 64 passes for 864 yards and five scores this season, putting him only three receptions shy of a new career-high.

The rest of Winnipeg's lineup will remain unchanged for Friday's game in Steeltown, where the Blue Bombers have lost four straight regular-season games dating back to 2018.

The club lost last year's affair at Tim Hortons Field by a score of 29-23 as Tyreik McAllister, who now plays for the Las Vegas Raiders, returned a missed Sergio Castillo convert 126 yards for a two-point score. Zach Collaros shredded Hamilton's secondary for almost 300 yards before halftime, then threw three interceptions in the second half.

Winnipeg won the first meeting between the two teams this season on Aug. 23 at Princess Auto Stadium when Zach Collaros hit Kenny Lawler for a 10-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds remaining. The offence sputtered miserably until the team's final game-winning drive as Collaros completed only 50 percent of his passes and threw three picks.

The Blue Bombers (9-6) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-9) on Friday, Oct. 4 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Ticats rule out star rookies REC Shemar Bridges, RB Greg Bell vs. Bombers
By 3Down Staff -October 3, 2024

Two of the best first-year players in the CFL won't be on the field for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this week.

Receiver Shemar Bridges (quad) and running back Greg Bell (ribs) have both been placed on the one-game injured list ahead of Friday's matchup with Winnipeg. Bridges enters the week sitting fourth in CFL receiving, having caught 83 passes for 933 yards and four touchdowns. Bell has played just six games but has carried the ball 68 times for 395 yards and five touchdowns, adding 25 receptions for 208 yards and another major.

Veteran James Butler will take back over at running back, having rushed 103 times for 498 yards and a touchdown through 10 games, along with 43 catches for 356 yards and another major. Fellow rookie Dezmon Patmon will step into the starting lineup for Bridges, having caught five passes for 63 yards in four previous appearances.

The Tabbies are also expected to be without one of their top pass rushers, as defensive end Nick Usher (ankle) has also been placed on the one-game injured list. The 29-year-old has posted 30 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble in 15 games this year and will be replaced by newcomer Tim Ward. Defensive tackle Trevon Mason will also draw into the lineup, with Mario Kendricks going to the practice roster alongside Canadian defensive back Patrick Burke Jr.

Centre David Beard was not listed on this week's injury report but has been named a game-time decision. Veteran Canadian Evan Johnson will dress for insurance.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-9) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-6) on Friday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
