Sure - except he's basically beat every tackle he's played against so far this year including ours. We can't just leave him one-on-one and drop back and expect things to go well. The Bombers sometimes have that mentality that they expect to win all the matchups but this is not one of those cases.

Bryant/Hardrick are going to have to keep the DE's to the outside and back.  Lets them swim underneath and go up the middle and Zach is in for hurt... unless he's rolling out to that side and they intentionally move the DE inside.

Keep the DE outside in contain, and step up in the pocket.

And if the 3 interior Oline can't handle the rush, scramble mode.

Whatever we do, we've got to give Betts the treatment. Every play we've got to chip him, double team him, run away from him, roll out the other way, etc. Make him run, run, run and then have receivers come in, etc. Obviously the offense needs to be on the field to do that. But we've got a good chance if we can work him over by the start of the 4th.

Agreed but I think that's a tall order. Betts has been a monster this season.

I think the run game needs to be more versatile but I also think having Lawler for this game benefits the home team. He'll help open up more space for the rest of the receiving corps.

Bottom line: play smart and clean on offense. Discipline and ball security have to be at the top of the priority list.

From Derek Taylor:

Day 2 of Bombers practice. Dalton Schoen is back after missing yesterday.

Evan Holm and Jamal Parker continue rotating halfback reps today. Both were on the roster last week as Parker handled punt returns. I don?t expect any of that to change this week.
#Bombers

Demerio Houston (5 INTs this season) adds one in practice. Bombers getting back to their 2022 CB duo of Houston & Rose this week.

Excellent on Schoen returning.

Schoen being back is huge... from what I've seen of BC's defense i'd make the following observations.
1. they are very good at covering the short wide out game and swarm to the football. Its not the most effective throw Zac makes either, stay away from it
2. BC is ultra aggressive. We need to game plan accordingly. fake throws (if the oline can give Zac time), crossing patterns, and also hard counts to draw them offside.
3. With Demski, Schoen and Lawler,,,go deep especially over the middle If we win even 50% if the battles its successful. Bc tends to play with a lot of defenses close to the line of scrimmage. that zone just over the linebackers heads may be available.(obviously oline is key to this) Thats why Schoen being back is so important, with all three of them in that puts a lot of pressure on BC
4. finally run the ball right at Betts, as others have mentioned you need to pay extra attention to him. Also, no doubt Hardwick and Bryant have watched game film of him beating them badly and would love to get some licks in
5. Didn't think id have to cover this , but we need to go back to avoiding penatlies, BC thrives on second chances both defensively and offensively..watching the last game we played against them, and the game they played against the elks this will be a key. Lately i think we've not been as good at this as we were

Somewhat of a surprise given the previous reports out of BC.

Maybe seeing that Evans ran the offence well, no point rushing VA back? Big game like this you would want your best on best here. The Lions did say his injury wasn?t expected to keep him out long term. Might just need another week.

Either way, big game here for the blue and gold. This is a very good BC team on both sides of the ball. Will need everyone at there best to get the W.

Weird we are kind of the underdog at a home game.

BC is simply a better team right now until the Bombers prove otherwise.

PurpleReign

BC secondary is very aggressive.  They jump the ball on short routes.  We need to run some pump and go on them several times in this game.   If Zach has the time we will torch them.

That is the key! Zach has even just a reasonable amount of time he will slay them.

Although Adams injury isn't a major one, it sounds like it's a bit worse than maybe they let on. They probably knew he would be out a few weeks all along.

Great idea for this game!

Hate is NOT welcome here.

Winnipeg's professional sport organizations are taking part in this campaign by dedicating one game to curb the hate epidemic.

Our 'Hate is Not Welcome Here' game is this Thursday at 7:30 pm.

Taking DWS out of the lineup seems unreasonable.  Yes, he's a rookie with the least experience.  But he has some amazing stats, even though QB's try to "pick on him'.

Read what I've said before and then look at his game film.  He is kept way off the R by Hall on purpose, then told to come up and tackle during the reception process.  This is because we don't trust him to play as a vet would.  It's not a dig on Swarm, he's very good for a rookie, but he is a rookie.

His DT stats might look good because everyone takes the "free" 7 yards you get throwing against Swarm, and then he makes the sure tackle.

Watch how we play that position drastically change in the next game when we have our "real" DB lineup in place.  I really hope BC gameplans around getting that free 7 at that spot and instead get INT'd a couple of times by our vets.

Demerio Houston (5 INTs this season) adds one in practice. Bombers getting back to their 2022 CB duo of Houston & Rose this week.

I don't like the idea of our best CB put with Nichols on the weak side.  I think we should split the talent.  Pre-injury we had Rose/Nichols on weakside.  Now, if Rose is still our best, I'd rather have him on the other side.  However, some might say Houston is now the best, and thus I'd rather see Houston on the other side.

When it was Rose/Nichols on the weak side teams were primarily throwing to the strong side to take advantage of the weaker talent.

I think the biggest question is does Parker reclaim his normal spot from Holm, or is he dinged up and/or too busy with return duty?  I'd prefer Parker at HB, but Holm has been very good.  My only gripe on Holm is he may be more susceptible to the super deep explosion (slower).
