Help !!  We desperately need a new kicker.  Leggio choking cost us 2 games in 2022, including the big one.  Missed extra point cost us a chance to win in OT.

Also, notice that he rarely kicks deep on kickoffs, which put the defense in a hole.  Leggio's  kickoffs rarely get deeper than than the 30 yd line.  Compare Bede who usually reaches the 5 or 10.  It's inexcusable to stick with a weak leg kicker who chokes on crucial converts.

Hello Justin Medlock.  If you have Coach O'Shea's cell #, he's waiting for your call.

LMAO, kickoffs rarely get deeper than the 30. Yes, not the strongest leg in the CFL, but let's get the facts straight.

Your point #3 is incorrect, within the last 3 min of a game, after a field goal, the scoring team has to kick off.

Ah, okay. I wasn't aware of that nuance. But in any case I think my point remains - there would have been probably enough time on the clock for Toronto to drive the other way. Whether or not they would have is another thing. But we should have managed the clock better.

Just for jollies, I looked at Castillo vs. Legghio, Castillo was 2% better on  FG attempts (37/44 vs. 32/39), and Legghio was 2% better at PAT's (26/29 vs. 56/61).  cAstillo is INT, and doesn't punt or kickoff.  So, that's losing one DI and maybe swapping a global for a nat for the P spot.

I think Leggs vs. Castillo is a win for Leggs all things considered...

Leggs has 7 years to catch up to Castillo, each year he will get better, and more clutch.

You forgot this stat.... Castillos's perfect 5/5 performance in the 2021 GC.

Legs does seem to have a problem with pressure kicks. And that's the issue for me.

Who wants Legs trotted out again next year to kick a 47 yarder to tie the game in the Grey Cup?  Or Western final?

A good guy but not the answer in big games.

To pile on ('cause that's how we roll) - I think the play call before the missed FG was questionable. I think it should have been another run to Oliviera, not a pass attempt.

* A run probably gains another 2-3 yards; yes, a completed pass gets a first down but...
* ... an incomplete pass stops the clock whereas a running play runs another 20-25 seconds off the clock...
* ... which is important because even had Wpg made that FG, they are only up by 2 points with ~45 seconds on the clock. Toronto could have taken the ball on the 35 (or is it the 40?) and would have needed a couple of first downs, or perhaps one big play, to get back into FG territory...
* ... and if Toronto would have kicked the winning FG with 0:00 on the clock, we'd be griping "Why didn't the Bombers manage the clock better?"

Of course, that's pure speculation. And perhaps even with a 2-3 yard gain on second down, Liegghio still misses that kick. But my point is that even if he would have made it, it's not necessarily true that would have been the deciding factor.

Good points.  I agree the pass was a questionable call.

Olivera was running well. You give it to him and enen if he only gets 4 yards you have the option to go for it with Prukop who is money on those short sneaks or then try the kick.

Just another one of the many mistakes that collectively killed us.

Better team lost.  The only bright side is I think it makes next year more interesting.  The drive for redemption.

It's important to note that snap on the last FG attempt was pretty sloppy.

Not saying Liegghio doesn't deserve his fair share of blame in Sunday' loss but I can't agree with the narrative he's some inept kicker who cost this team a championship. That's simply not reasonable and there's enough blame to go around on the losing team.

Is he the answer going forward? I'm not sure. Missing PATs consistently is a problem that needs to be addressed. Should the Bombers try and find another kicker to at least compete for the starting job in 2023. Absolutely. Maybe a guy like Hajrullahu could be convinced. Or Castillo again.

Hello Justin Medlock.  If you have Coach O'Shea's cell #, he's waiting for your call.

OK, this sentiment is far to prevalent, and egregiously wrong.

How many wins did we have this year off Legg's foot?

After long deliberation, I have decided it is Walters' fault.  And absolutely not for the reason you immediately jump to.

Hear me out.

Walters drafted Hackett and Sleep-Dalton in the Global draft.  2 of 3 picks spent on punters.  Neither of which actually showed up. 3 of 7 Global picks so far, zero results.

Haggerty was selected in this years Global draft too.  And is won a ring on Sunday.

This is the issue, IMHO.

I've been going on about how Legg's does all three jobs, and how that is a roster benefit.  I have changed my mind about that.

Making him Punt because we could not get a Global punter on the roster was the mistake.

If Legg's isn't spending a good part of his time punting, he concentrates on the job that gets us points and wins games.

Yes, punting is a big part of the game, but it has been shown that Aussie punters are as good or better than Nat's and we aren't spending a DI on a specialist punter.

So, there was the key.  Walters inability to sign a Global Punter.  3 of 8 players the BOmbers ever drafted in the global draft are P, none came to camp.

Walters is a God in the CFL GM ranks in most ways, his drafting, scouting  and FA signing ability is second to none.

But getting a Global P on the roster would have made a huge difference.  Zema, Vedvik, Haggarty, Domegala, Grace... more than half the league uses a specialist Global P.

Sure, we lose a Machino or Mauro from the roster.  But those are spots that are ST at best, that a DI or backup NAT can handle  But we get a Liegghio centred on kicking through the uprights only.  100% focus.  Not just that, the two kicking routines use different muscles and different motions/mechanics.  Not saying they are not similar, but there is no doubt, they are different.

There is a reason NFL teams do not have a FG kicker who also punts.  They may in emergency, but very rarely full time.  And FG kickers sometimes do not even do kickoffs...

Now, ask Legg's if he can do all three, and he will say "Yes Sir".  Just like any player when asked to do any task on this team.  But it was an ask that should never have been made.

I really, really think that next year, with a Global punter on the roster, Legg's will emerge as a premier FG kicker.

In the meantime, we won 16 games on his foot, and lost 4... instead of blaming him for the 2 that got away, please thank him for the ones that didn't.

Medlock didn't return in 2021. What makes you think he'd consider doing so two years later at 39 years old?

Every player should have competition in camp.  From Leggs, to Bryant, to Collaros.  No one's job should ever be "secure".

You singled out needing another kicker in camp.  I agreed, and said every player should have competition.

Collaros has a new 3yr. deal.....until the last part of the season I thought he had one heckuva season....He didn't look like Zack on a few occasions especially in the Cup....Maybe we were more concentrating on the run game...which is logical for this time of yr. ...BUT  a few guys seemed to have disappeared in the Cup....especially Demski and Bailey....In any case it's back to the drawing board to put together another Cup winner....which should be everyone's goal....and I trust our management to do just that

Collaros is no.1 qb. Hes not fighting for any job. Look at his winning record. Thats not just home games . most of the players should all come  back. Most played really good during the game. Just a few had a bad game.

It looks like you're saying he is NOT our #1 QB. But we get it. Here I will fix it for you.

From my recollection the only two players that O'Shea has ever protected from competition are Liegghio and Drew Willy in year one. Neither benefitted from this approach.
