BLUE BOMBERS TRANSACTIONS: MARCH 22, 2022

WINNIPEG, MB., March 22, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American offensive lineman Eric Lofton to a one-year contract.

Lofton (6-4, 300, Temple University; born: March 6, 1993 in Lumberton, NJ) joins the Blue Bombers in 2022 for what will be his fourth season in the Canadian Football League after spending time with Ottawa (2017-18) and Edmonton (2019). He was also under contract with Edmonton through 2020 and the cancellation of the season due to the pandemic before being released in May of 2021. He has six games of CFL experience and was also briefly with B.C. in 2019 before signing in Edmonton.

Lofton played his college ball at Temple, redshirting his first year and then appearing in 37 games over the next four seasons. In 2015, his senior year, he was named a First-Team All-American Athletic Conference all-star.

The club has also signed American defensive back Marlon Character (Louisville).

BLUE BOMBERS TRANSACTIONS: MARCH 24, 2022

WINNIPEG, MB., March 24, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed a pair of American players in wide receiver Antonio Nunn and defensive back Donald Rutledge, Jr.

Nunn (5-11, 204, University of Buffalo; born: September 14, 1996 in Tampa, FLA) joins the Blue Bombers after a solid college career with the Bulls and then attending training camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021.

Nunn finished his UB days with a solid senior season in 2020, leading the team with 37 passes for 584 yards and two touchdowns in seven games in a pandemic-shortened year. Those statistics earned him a spot on the All-MAC Second Team. He appeared in 45 games with the Bulls from 2017-20, starting all 19 in his junior and senior seasons.

Signed by the Falcons as an undrafted free agent, he attended training camp but was among the final cuts last August.

Rutledge, Jr. (6-1, 210, Georgia Southern University; born: May 22, 1997 in the Bronx, NY) comes to the Blue Bombers after attending training camps with both the Indianapolis Colts (2020) and Arizona Cardinals (2021).

Rutledge, Jr. began his collegiate career at The Citadel, spending his 2015-16 season as a redshirt freshman before transferring to Savannah State, where he spent the next three years playing safety. He spent his senior season at Georgia Southern after transferring, and started nine games, registering 50 tackles, five pass break-ups and an interception.

He then signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and spent the entire training camp with the team before his release. Rutledge, Jr. signed with the Cardinals in January of 2021 and attended camp last year before being released.

Blue Bombers add defensive back Robert Priester

WINNIPEG, MB., March 28, 2022 -The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American defensive back Robert Priester.

Priester (5'9, 180, Wyoming, December 25, 1993 in Tampa, FL.) played in two games for Winnipeg in the 2018 season, recording seven defensive tackles. He was in training camp with Edmonton in 2019, and played five games with Tampa Bay in the XFL in 2020. Priester spent three seasons with the Wyoming Cowboys, making 103 total tackles and three forced fumbles in 35 games played. In 2017, Priester recorded a career high in tackles for a loss and forced fumbles.

Salaries of kickers is interesting. Can't remember whether some of these are dual punt and kick players to get a better feel about total team cost against SMS. The Global kickers in particular if they are dual kickers and still exempt from SMS is a particular advantage to those teams.

I wonder if the Global salaries will change in the new CBA. The Canadian kickers/punters have as much at stake as the Global players. Teams won't pay Canadians top dollar if they can get away with a low priced Global replacement.

I've suggested that and wondered about those issues as well.

I don't believe that teams will be mandated to roster 2 Global player but a few are already doing that as an SMS exemption benefit.

Since so many teams drafted global kickers last year it may open a window to draft one in Winnipeg in the 1st round if a good one is available. Double advantage even if we choose to go with 2 globals on the roster. How the new CBA shakes out is a series of questions in regard to global players for salaries,  SMS exemption and number on the 46 man roster.

Actually possibly a triple advantage in that it eliminates the need to use a DI spot for an import kicker. That opens up a spot for an import DE as a DI potentially.

BLUE BOMBERS ADD FORMER KANSAS STATE RECEIVER DALTON SCHOEN

WINNIPEG, MB., April 7, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American wide receiver Dalton Schoen.

Schoen (6'1, 210, Kansas State, October 13, 1996 in Overland Park, KS) originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the LA Chargers in 2020, but was released following training camp. In 2021, he signed a futures contract with the Kansas City Chiefs and later that year joined Washington's practice roster. He re-joined the Chiefs in December of 2021, being added to their practice roster. Schoen was a walk-on at Kansas State, climbing up the depth chart to eventually start as a sophomore, and record 92 receptions for 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns over 34 games from 2017-2019.
