From Jordan Schultz on X

Sources: #Vikings K Will Reichard's agents and the team's front office requested that the NFL remove his missed FG from last week's London game after it clearly struck a camera cable, causing the ball to take an unnatural turn to the right.

The NFL acknowledged it was a missed call but ruled they will not make the statistical adjustment.
I was not familiar with this incident. Having looked into it now, I believe that the appropriate decision was made to not make a statistical scoring change.

The role of the statistician during a game is to create a play by play that most accurately describes each play as it happens on the field. A statistical ruling, during and after the game, should never be swayed by what should have happened if there is an error on the field.

There are also instances where the on field application of rules contradicts the statistical rules. In those cases, the on field application of rules always supersedes what the stats rules dictate.

Ya, while it seems unfair, the onus is on the refs & command to "get it right" during the game, at the time, before the next snap.

Consider the punt that went into the BC Place scoreboard, or the one that hit and fell down (I think that also happened?).  If the refs and command had let the board hit slide, and the ball was subsequently played, then that would be what the statisticians would record.

What I find incredible is no one noticed or cared to correct the kick hitting a spydercam cable??  Forget about his personal stats, did that cost them the game?  Them not dealing with it might be a function of the quick NFL 40s clock and the fact those refs make calls basically instantly with little input from their command.  And the CFL may be following them down this path...
