Alternate comms devices

Both the old HC in TOR and Milanovitch seem to be using a new comms device to talk to either the booth or QB helmets.  They lift up a CB-radio type handset on a coiled cord going down to (probably) their waist.  Looks a bit anachronistic.

What is this thing?  Is this the first year seeing this?  I don't recall seeing this before this season.  It was the TOR HC I noticed it on first.

They are still wearing the CFL-logo'd headset, but don't seem to be using it?  Do they not trust the CFL headset?  I've always wondered about unscrupulous home teams tapping into those or bugging booths... (hey, if MLB teams can "read/steal calls", why not?)

If the CFL logo headsets are anything like the mics hooked up to the refs, maybe these "new" ones just work better?

It's the latest.

LOL, funny, but doesn't help.  No one else found it odd they have 70's style coiled cords to a CB mic held up to their mouths??

No one else even noticed??

Yikes!

I'll grasp at any explanation at this point!  Though you'd think the CFL headset ones were more tuned to block out potential PAS-level crowd noises, not the old CB thing.  Headsets can be geared like a pilot's mic, to block out bg noise.  Not many truckers with CBs have bad bg noise...

Does anyone want a screenshot of what I'm talking about here?  Maybe no one has even seen it on TSN yet.

Here's a potential idea... is the CB set used to speak solely to the QB helmet mics??  Do both HAM & TOR have HCs who are the OC's??  If so, maybe that's the tech EVERYONE uses to call O plays, and we just never see them because they are up in booths usually.

The HC/OC could use the CFL set for talking to the booth, and the CB set for talking to the QB.

(But that wouldn't explain why I haven't seen one on Buck? or Dinwiddie?  Don't they both act as OC too?)

I have noticed they have old school corded phones on the sidelines.

LOL.  Everyone notices that.  I think most teams still have them, even though not all use them very much.  Heck, TSN does entire 5 min segments on them in pre-game shows!

Hey, that's an idea: I'm writing TSN asking them to do a boring 5 min segment on these new CB radios.

LOL, I remember that one.  Boy, that guy didn't last long in the league!  Wasn't he the guy after Kavis?
