Sheahan appreciation thread with props to punt coverage teams

Punters get no love but I have always liked this guy. So consistent!

Not fact checked but this shows he is killing it and so is the coverage team

"The Winnipeg Blue Bombers hold their opponents to a league-best punting return allowance of just 10.5 yards per return. Their own punting unit, led by Jamieson Sheahan, averages 49.6 yards per punt."

A small but vocal group has been too hard on Sheahan with some calling him to be cut last year and a even a wee bit this year. All he has done is proved them wrong. Keep this guy long term! Big legs are cool but I'll take our guy thank you very much.

Sheahan's fine. I've been pretty happy with him the whole time. It is fun watching whatever trick punt he has dialed up at any given time.

He hasn't had any spectacular ones yet this season, like great coffins or backspin specials, but he delivers it pretty much where cover teams need it. And mistakes are minimal, did we kick one OOB for a flag yet? Maybe 1?

And you can't beat the "free dress" of being a GLOB. Not like we'll find a NAT who is much better anytime soon. And the price is right. And he was nice enough to sign my jersey in the post-game pit last season!

He's off to a good start and I think the rules will actually help him next year. We also enjoyed pretty good field position last game which is ideal for Sheahan's directional punting game. There are going to be some game scripts where we need that distance and hang time from deep in our side of the field and that's what he doesn't really have and it would be nice to have a punter that could do that.

Mike Miller has to get a lot of the praise for the play of the special teams. If he keeps that unit playing this well I have to think that Mike Miller will get a look as a head coach. Perhaps Miller is the heir apparent to O'Shea here in Winnipeg.

I'm not sure the league could handle two Mike Miller head coaches. This would be the SSK and OTT Roughrider saga all over again.
Maybe one of them will have to change their names.

I can do with less trick kicks if Sheahan is putting it where the coaches want him to put the ball. The trick kicks were cute the first year, but they caused their own problems from time to time.

I'm just curious what makes you think that? Mike Miller is a lifetime special teamer. Why would he have what it takes to be a head coach if his real expertise is just in special teams?

I think with MOS it was clear that he has a very strong leadership quality and alpha mentality that our team needed. He set's a great example for players day in and day out.

He had couple poor punts against the TiCats at home and on the road.

He was very good against the Argos. Consistency is a problem with him.

I've always had a soft spot for the Aussies, Sheahan isn't as vocal or prank happy as some of his country mates, but as a "free spot" on the roster, he's a keeper.

Consistently getting better, slight regression or 2, a wee bit early to fully judge him this year

Not sure how you could say consistency is an issue with him, as steady as they come imo, ffffacts

Do you understand what the word consistency means?

You are showing a season average and a season net...to highlight...consistency. Anything jumping out at you there or? Yes, he's off to a good start.

It's also kinda hilariously you're comparing it his other seasons net and average what weren't as good which you also claimed were sensational.

But yes, you have correctly stated that these are indeed "facts" so that's compelling stuff. Props?

Prove to me he isn't consistent with facts not opinion. His stats show a consistent average that is rising. Off to a great start.

You wanted other kickers to take his place. You have been hard on him. All he does each yes is consistenly prove the doubters wrong. Good reliable kicker with good ball security. Works for me.

At the end of the year we can look at his numbers and see how they land. At a good pace so far! Kicking well again after a good year last year.

I prefer presenting opinions with factual evidence to back them up.

Oh I'm not saying he isn't consistent. I think he's a good directional punter who is effective from about the 35/40 and pretty exceptional from the 50 or 55. He's probably not the punter you want if you're backed up in your own end.

On the "prove it to you", it's just that someone said he missed some kicks in the Hamilton game and questioned his consistency and you responded with season averages. I just point that out as an interesting thought process. Connect the dots however you think you should.

So to some extent the fact he's seemingly kicking at a better clip than 2024 shouldn't matter much to you. Great is great is great is great.

some good points, would like to see his stat for the Hamilton game before I pass judgement on that, but one game either way doesn't sway me after years of watching him kick consistently. A good punter, no a booming leg but it's working very well for us as my stats show.
