Blue Bombers Transactions - September 29, 2025

WINNIPEG, MB., September 29, 2025 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the following transactions:

Released from practice roster:

American linebacker Jonathan Jones
"You can't let praise or criticism get to you. It's a weakness to get caught up in either one." - John Wooden

Blue In BC

May as well release him since we don't seem to want to play him. Perhaps he asked for his release and hopes to catch on somewhere else. There is a deadline on when PR players can move to another team and it might coincide with the trade deadline.

Why now is a bit curious but no problem.

Roster move for incoming player?  If we get a roster player for a draft pick at the deadline, someone goes to the IR or PR, and its probably a LB.

Its just a PR spot, so not really a game changer.
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

We already had room to add 3 or 4 more players to the PR with the expansion. There isn't anyone I can of that will move to our PR from the AR. Ball might move to 1 game IR and those on the 1 game IR may not be healthy yet.

Griffin is the only one that might be ready to move to AR next game but even that is iffy.

Hopefully can get employed, thanks for your time here and good luck.  He will likely find a spot by next season.  Hopefully someone gives him a sniff soon.

Probably wanted out before the cold weather hit, can't see Walters cutting him as he was the legitimate backup to Tony Jones, who will likely be the Bombers MODP this year.  Bad luck, he was brought into TC to compete for the starting MLB job but got beat out by a low cost player just coming into his prime.

The future may now be in the Canadian draft choices at least as the back ups on game day for 2026.

What an absolute waste of free agency this year. Just chucked money out the window.
My wife is amazing!

Agree, working in Shay and Smith in the remaining games would be a great move for the future of the ratio, realistically no Natl. DB's have a shot in the secondary and Safety looks to be Allen's job for the next few years.

If we were gonna play Shay or Smith you'd think they would have last game when Wilson was hurt, instead we went to a four man front
For all the hype we made at the draft they dont even get a sniff

Patience grasshopper
4 man front worked at times
It helped keep them off the scoreboard
There time will come
Good things come to those that wait

Disagree, so easy to say that now.  Before the season started many questions if Wilson could still play well and believed he would be injured.  We brought in a lot of talent and we didn't need this piece.  If we lost a couple starting LBs we would have been in great shape

It's normal to have a 4 man front and a WIL. So that doesn't answer the question about what they did to adjust to Wilson being out for a short time.

I'd guess that Woodbey may have taken on a slightly different role for that series and I did notice Kelly on the field in the secondary.

IMO Woodbey has shown some good upside and may now be the next man up at WIL. That seems somewhat reinforced by J. Jones leaving the team. Previously I thought he was the next man up.

Yep, Woodbey has climbed the depth chart to put himself in a very good position for next season and it may not be based on being any better than Ayers or J. Jones. Could be his ELC contract status gave him the boost up over Ayers who going into his 3rd season will ask for a pay raise, and Jones who already received his pay raise and couldn't earn it.

From an SMS standpoint this is an easy decision for Walters to make as it allows him to focus his budget on areas of trouble where a scarcity of options makes player attraction and retention more critical, such as both the O-line and D-lines. The secondary is the best place to find savings, from this season Walters found 3 more ELC contracts he can milk for a bonus year in Vaval, Allen and Dexter Lawson, Parker and Houston should be nervous.

I remember Woodbey looking very good in pre-season. He seemed to be all over the field. He's been impressive since being activated and was our leading tackler in the last game.

Ayers played in 2024 and had opportunities in 2025. J. Jones also had game time in 2025.

It appeared to me that Woodbey just out performed them both on defence. That doesn't make either of them bad players but got his chance and ran away with it.

Ayers role has primarily been ST ace but SMS may come into play before next TC.

Meh.  Pretty same as always.  And no one cost a lot of money.  So does it really matter?

As for Woodbey: ya he's always around the ball, fast, and seems to have a good quick strike.  He's making others expendable.
Never go full Johnston!
