The plan was likely to neutralize the run game, as it's the only thing Calgary is good at, first which requires some patience.

Ya, this could have been it in a nutshell.  But this is a Hall M.O.: stop the run, then pin the ears back on 2nd and long with an empty backfield and a non-running QB.  The odd part is we did Hall step #1, but not Hall step #2.  But it's not like we had the game in the bag at any point... so I guess I'll remain slightly perplexed.

Keep in mind Techno, the defense isn?t into sacks so much, but rather take away what the offence wants to do, and hold the, to second and long, on second down let them dink and dunk and be held to under the first down marker, and let them punt.

Ya, I've seen all the Hall/MOS pressers and they make it clear "disruption" is all that matters, not stats.  Maybe without getting in the pocket we still disrupted Maier enough to be off on many big passes.  Can't pin all of those drops solely on the receivers.

In any event, I've never been worried.  I know what Hall, MOS and Willie do.  Been watching the same story with that trio for 3.5(?) seasons.  They've done similar before.  We get so spoiled we expect to see pocket mayhem on every D play.  8) 8) ;D

Agreed.   Could we use some better? Sure. Always.

12 points, no majors and stopped both deadly Calgary running backs to 51 yards - I?m trembling.

Garbage indeed.

An extra defensive lineman who was rotating in would help but apparently this is not the way.

Of course it would help. But there's an opportunity cost and that's where most people get crossed up because evaluating the difference between the benefit of more DL rotation verses a special teamer is really hard if you aren't a coach.

In both cases these are likely to be ELC players.

Not a financial decision.

A player that rotates with a starter on the DL is going to see more reps and be more critical than an extra ST player. If Jeffcoat or Jackson get nicked are we going to see Briggs on the field more as a result. Lots of our depth players can and will play on ST's.

We just added Gauthier back and he's great on ST's.

According to Blue in BC on the Bombers forum. Not according to a two-time winning Grey Cup head coach who is second all-time in Bombers head coach wins and was a HoF player.

Just about every other CFL team uses 7-8 (usually 8) dlineman. Fairly common in the NFL too. How many CFL teams use a DA spot on a fullback who takes a handful of offensive reps and minimal to no defensive reps but can play teams?

We are dressing 6 tomorrow. Montreal is dressing 7. Would it make everyone feel better if he was listed as a Linebacker? Because we've dressed Cole for half the season and guess what he is? An American who takes very few defensive snaps but plays special teams.

Cole takes reps on D, watch the game and see. He's got 8 DT and a couple of forced fumbles. He's had pass knockdowns. Poor example.

Our defense was at its best when we have had 7-8 players rotating in on the dline. Jeffcoat has a long injury history. How comfortable would you be if he goes out and Bennett has to take all his snaps? What if Walker gets hurt and its just Lawson and Thomas taking snaps at DT?

...He doesn't have a defensive tackle in over a month. If you're going to google, google better.

I'd like to see more pressure, but pass rushing isn't at the top of the list of areas to improve. We're third in sacks, but it looks like teams don't vary that much anyway. Montreal is stuck at the bottom, Calgary at the top, and most other teams bunched in the middle.

We do have a guy that can play DE, has played DE his entire college career, and could, in a pinch play DE.

We just prefer to use him as ST.FB/backup LS right now...

People seem to forget Mr. Seal is a natural DE...
