For months and months we waited for the day Kyrie would return to the field.    After watching the entire game it was difficult to assess his play.    Can anyone who was at the game. and who is on this forum, expand on their take of his play.    I believe Techno made a comment that his pairing with AB4 was "fantastic".    If anyone can expand on this it would be appreciated

Wilson was around the ball a ton, especially on run plays.  The weak side run is no longer a "free play" for our opponents.  Note how Mizzell was mostly stuffed.

Wilson was (as usual) good at shedding blocks to get to the carrier.  They have him stuffing holes sometimes, but, unlike Hurl, when his hole is not the one being used he disengages quickly and gets to where he needs to be.  He's still mega-fast.  I saw no sign of any lingering issues.

Watch him pre-snap working out the play with Biggie.  It's fun to watch.

Those two are poetry in motion.  Like our DE's they compliment each other.

He played a fair amount from what I could see from the stands...looked gassed towards the end but that is understandable and part of the process of getting back into form.  I expect to see a dominate Wilson by Labour Day in Regina once he gets a couple of games in.

That was my expectation as well.  Couple games and he will be 100%.  Interesting that he was gassed at the end and yes expected.

The initial concern was whether he'd be able to play and not suffer a sudden re-injury. We've seen that with other players that have had the same injury. Now that he's survived the 1st game he should be ok and gain back his game form conditioning and timing. He is a top LB when healthy. A real force.

I would suspect with Rose and Wilson if they didn't get nicked this was the biggest test.  That said see if they practice straight through or their body needs a break.

They might not be totally game conditioned but it appears they are " healthy " after playing a complete game. It was a good 1st sign.

Thanks for the input from everyone....from the replay it appeared he was ok however it's not as easy to key on him with the replay only.    Watching him from the stands tells another story and I'm happy he made it through the first game without incident.    I do remember how key of a player he was prior to his injury last season and happy that he's back in the Bomber fold and contributing at a top level

Agreed. I thought both looked pretty good in their first action of the season in what was ultimately a very convincing and dominant win.

Wilson really complements the LB corps and his chemistry with Bighill is key, IMO.

I wonder, will they spy with Wilson, Biggie or Alexander?  Or all of the above, depending on the down and distance?

Because they do have to spy, something they did not do enough on Crum in his first CFL start.  This isn't Ford's first start, but it might as well be.

From MOS and Hall:

?When you talk about containing him, it?s certainly not a one-man job. All guys have to be on point. One of the things about rushing a good running quarterback is making sure you?re correct in your rush lanes and when you are about to get washed out of it, it?s making sure you get back on track. You can?t take the easy way out against guys like that because when they decide to make you pay there are a lot of yards chewed up quickly.?

The Blue Bombers are obviously aware of the dangers of a running QB, having been ripped up by Ottawa?s Dustin Crum for two TDs and 74 yards on eight carries in the 31-28 loss to the RedBlacks back on July 15th. And in the win over Edmonton a week later, Cornelius rushed for times for 57 yards.

That only further fuelled the characterization of the Blue Bombers defence as being vulnerable to QBs who tuck the ball and run at the first sign of pressure.

?We?ve shown that,? said defensive coordinator Richie Hall. ?When we played (Edmonton) last time, we lost containment a couple of times or (Cornelius) got loose a couple times and made some plays. That?s going to happen during the course of the game ? what you want to do is minimize it. If they scramble out and get eight yards or 10 yards, that?s one thing. It?s when they get 25-30 yards that you want to minimize.

?(Ford) is a tremendous athlete who can make plays. We have to be very disciplined. We have to get after him, win first down. Do we do anything different? Yeah, we?ll have some little wrinkles in there, but you need to do what we do.

?It?s a reminder that when the see it, see that we?re not doing what we?re supposed to do, then we become vulnerable. Then it?s about, ?Why did we become vulnerable? And how can we learn from our experiences?? When you take chances and you become a riverboat gambler it?s good when you win, but when you lose, this is what happens.?

I saw Tre play for 4 years in Usport while my son played for Western. Forde will take off a number of times he is not very patient sitting in the pocket and going through all the reads. He is very elusive and one on one it is a very difficult task to get him down. You basically have to gang tackle him. Seems like running QB?s gives us fits every game.

Ya, forget about what MOS is saying, if Ford proves he can gouge us with the run then we'll definitely assign a spy, just like the other teams are doing against Crum.

Wilson is the best choice as he's the only one who can keep up with Ford.  Then Biggie has to move in as the RB Brown stopper.  If EDM was smart they'd do the fork play where both QB and RB run out the same side and just wait to see who the defender crashes on.  Thus we need 2 guys defending that type of play.  Can't be BA, or we'll have no help over top and give up an explosion pass.

EDM is going to go from a pass-first / pass-mostly team to a run 1st 2nd and 3rd team overnight.  We stop the run, we win easily, because Ford is going to make tons of misreads and INTs.  There's a reason C.Jones kept him on the sidelines until forced to pull Corny... because Ford can't read and throw (is my best guess).

Agree on the last point ,a high percentage of young QBs take a long time to learn to read a defense.
