Edmonton Elks promote Jarious Jackson to offensive coordinator

The Edmonton Elks announced changes to their coaching staff on Monday, as Jarious Jackson has been promoted to the role of offensive coordinator.

A Grey Cup champion coach with Edmonton during the team's 2015 CFL championship run, Jackson has been the Elks' pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach since the start of the 2022 season. The Tupelo, Miss. native takes over offensive game planning and play calling duties effective immediately, while retaining his duties as quarterbacks coach.

The promotion marks the third time in Jackson's career that he will handle offensive coordinator and quarterback coaching duties, after holding both roles with the Toronto Argonauts (2021) and B.C. Lions (2018-19).

"It's never easy to make a significant change to your coaching staff during the season, but our results haven't been up to our standards. Jarious has proven in his career that he's up to the task of leading an offence to success, and I expect that to be the case given his abilities and familiarity with our team," said Elks General Manager and Head Coach Chris Jones.

"We've got 10 games to make significant strides as a team this season, and Jarious is going to be a key part of that process."

During his playing career, Jackson was a three-time Grey Cup champion quarterback, winning with B.C. in 2006 and 2011, before earning another title with Toronto in 2012.

Jackson began his coaching career as the Lions quarterbacks coach in 2013, before serving on Jones' staffs in Edmonton (2014-15) and Saskatchewan (2016-17).

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity of being an offensive coordinator again in the CFL," said Jackson. "It's a privilege to coach in this league and with this Club, so the importance of this role isn't lost on me."

"We have a lot of work to do to improve our offensive output and meet the high expectations we have as a group. That work begins now, as we'll make the most of the bye week and get prepared for a tough Winnipeg team on August 10."

Stephen McAdoo, who served as assistant coach and offensive coordinator since the start of the 2022 season, will remain on staff in an advisory role.

Jones just grasping at straws at this point.

What a disastrous season for the Elks.

Didn't have the stones to fire his buddy McAdoo.

He's going to have to pay McAdoo for the season either way, so keeping him on as an "advisor" keeps him ineligible to sign elsewhere, and take the vaunted Elk's playbook with him...

This was the minimum Jones could do.. and in Jones style, he's done the minimum.

No announcement of a star QB coming in, no MBT signing in the offing, or finding a USFL / XFL QB that wants to come join his dumpster fire.  Maybe Jackson has a guy in mind now that he is in charge, or maybe Jackson's playbook can get Corny from doggin it...

You're paying him anyway so I suppose he can stay on and help. If he's just advising there's not much harm in it.

Yep. Just find out what play McAdoo would call in a given situation and then do something else.
Money is no object...especially when you have none.

Unfortunately for them that may actually be bad news as the team as a whole is so bad no QB could look good and it may end up dropping their stock for the future.

Not looking past BC (OK it is) but I DO NOT want to be the team the streak is broken against....

Sir Blue and Gold

Makes sense for the Elks. Tre Ford can probably win a game or two with this athleticism alone. Doubt he can read a defense or play from the pocket though.

So, Jones has an issue with Ford, but who knows what Jackson thinks, and you have to wonder if there is some outside pressure (Geroy or above) that is telling Jones to keep his hands off the offence now...and Ford might just get his Rourke chance...

Jackson has been in the room with the Elks offensive staff since the start of the 2022 season so it probably changes next to nothing, he was previously the team's pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.  This move is window dressing done to appease fans and people above Jones who are demanding to see change.

Cannot help feel sorry for those fans. It seems no light at the end of this tunnel.

No bloody way the Bombers lose to these bums!

Whoever brought that is one of the more fragile like statements  I have seen on here. I mean come on man think before spewing. Right Zipp?  :D
