You should care about any play that costs you 40 yards in field position. But whatever,
You're right, it makes a huge difference where you take 3 kneel-downs from...

It's about playing the right way, all the time, and not picking up bad habits or setting bad examples.

I wouldn't want him to make that pick in a lot of circumstances, so I understand where you're coming from.
BUT
In this circumstance, there is nothing wrong with that play.

Maybe MOS shows the clip in film study quickly and moves on. This is a whole lotta nothing

Who cares?
He made a play on the ball and won his 1 on 1 match-up.
If you watch the clip, when he is tracking the ball and goes up for the grab, he's locked in on the ball. It would be a lot tougher to make sure he wasn't knocking the ball into the hands of another reciever trailing the play. From the birds eye view, it's pretty clear that no one is around him, but a lot tougher to look around when you're trying to track a deep ball coming at you.
Catching the ball with 37 seconds left, up 14 points, to sacrifice 40 yards... WHO CARES? Game is over!

Putting the ball on the turf after "catching" it would not have been difficult, or dangerous.  Make the "catch", then place it on the turf.  As the coaches have told you to do just seconds before.

Holding on pads your stats, placing it on the turf says "Team First".

Pretty simple, really.

As I mentioned once before: In the Rider / Stamp game a July 15th, the DB went for the pic on a long 3rd down pass. It was deflected to the receiver and caught for a TD. That allowed the Riders to send the game to OT a little later. The play by play is already gone from that game but IIRC, the Riders then kicked an onside kick and scored again? Regardless, they wouldn't have been in that situation if the DB knocked down the ball on 3rd down.

It's the CFL. A lot can happen in less than 2 1/2 minutes, just ask the Bombers.

If you rewatch the Houston pick, he caught it in front of himself, there was no reason he could not have "dropped" it to the turf safely.

If they were told to knock down the ball, and he decided to hold on for the pick, I guess you could claim "muscle memory", but the celebration after dispels that contention.  He revelled in the pick, and encouraged his teamates to celebrate his pick, whether it be selfish or a brainfart.

Haha, we're always on MOS's case for being so secretive and telling DT and everyone else basically nothing week after week.

He opens up just this once and tells us what he's really thinking and lots of people are bashing him!  Haha.

This is the type of juicy gossip and potential "faux pas" that other teams' coaches do all the time (maybe on purpose).

Should it have been private?  Maybe.  I'm more intrigued by the fact he let something on the inside leak to the outside.  And I like it because I like dirt, it keeps things interesting.  I'm not going to judge either MOS nor Houston and would have been fine with any of this going the other way.

Hey, it's not like MOS got all angry and serious and said "there will be consequences".  ;D ;D  Now that was my favorite on-screen chewing out ever.  (Miss ya Kavis!)
Never go full Rider!

Its MOS ship, he can run it as he see's fit. 100% support him in handling the situation, message was sent, play smart regardless of score. Winning becomes a habit, start goofing around and making stupid mistakes, and you get off that course.

Disagree.....the Bombers belong to the City of Winnipeg.....it's their team.    MOS is only one component of our team and he isn't beyond reproach.    I didn't like the pick or the celebration after, which was over the top....yet MOS was off base for publicly criticizing him on air.    No one person is bigger than the franchise and Bud Grant who was the greatest coach in Bomber history would NOT act this way.    MOS is still a great coach however people make mistakes, even MOS.    He obviously has a right to be angry with his players and he could have handled this more effectively by taking him aside and giving him an earful one on one.    This type of public condemnation sows seeds of discontent within any organization or workplace.    Stop with the aggrandizement of MOS already!!

Completely agree. Bad stuff like that can happen, but in this circumstance, I think the safer play was to catch it.
We've seen a lot of really bad defensive play over the last 20-30 years. Houston winning a jump ball situation to close out a game at home... it just suprises me that people get mad at him for this.

I think it was more about the over the top celebration in that circumstance.

But that's crazy to me too!
At home in front of a loud crowd, just made a play to end the game, I'd be fired up too!

They are playing a game. Let them have a little fun!

He probably just got caught up in the moment of making the play.

My theory, anyway.

So would knocking down the ball ended the game.

Exactly. No difference.
