Sir Blue and Gold

After last game I'd stick with Crum.

If I were them, I would 100% sign Pigrome.
Play Crum for at least a few weeks and if he's good, that's great! If not, Pigrome should be aclimated at that point.

No trade for a QB this week will help them this week. I could see them acquiring Ford but he's only potential and no where near proven. If any of the XFL or USFL QB's are free agents then they'd at least have more film on them. That's where I'd expect a possible acquisition to be found.

I haven't heard about any of those players getting NFL offers yet, but some might have. Beyond that option window, many may not be free agents as far as the CFL.

My expectation is that Ottawa in particular will add a QB this week. However I don't think that is done by trade.

There were probably a half dozen QB's cut in TC's around the league. Not sure if Pigrome is even on anybodies radar. If so he could have been signed to a PR 5 weeks ago for a look see.

We don't even really know why we didn't do that. Perhaps he wouldn't accept a PR spot. Perhaps he didn't have a good learning curve. Only the Bombers know the details.

Ottawa is in a heap of trouble without a proven guy behind centre......Pigrome isn't proven despite his two preseason games where he sparkled.....he then promptly fizzled when real bullets were being fired.    We have had the luxury and immense good fortune of having a #1 QB who has only missed a few snaps due to injury in his 4th season with us....without Zach we wouldn't have won 2 Cups and played for a third....which was oh so close!    Zach also has the luxury of having a fortress of an O-Line providing protection and a D that has been dominant at giving him good field position....

Was it a sparkle?  Or a twinkle?  If there was something there, he'd be here.  Or on a roster elsewhere.  I was rooting for him, but the SY debacle in regular season was enough to end the experiment when Prukop came available.

So, this week our pass rush is going to be doing some destruction, leaving Dejarlais and company to pick up the Crums...

I mean, I guess it's better than re-injuring that same ACL but not by much.

From cfl Twitter:

Source: Redblacks have contacted Bethel-Thompson regarding CFL return:  The Ottawa Redblacks have reached out to McLeod Bethel-Thompson about a potential return to the CFL. According to a league source, Ottawa (1-3) has made an inquiry

In the off-season, Bethel-Thompson opted to sign with the USFL's New Orleans Breakers, citing a desire to play closer to his family. The move wasn't surprising as after the Grey Cup game, Bethel-Thompson spoke candidly about the difficulties of being away from his wife and young daughter during the CFL season.

But according to the source, a return to Canada "would have to be right" for Bethel-Thompson and his family. The source added Ottawa hasn't been the only CFL club to reach out to Bethel-Thompson but wouldn't identify the other teams.

The source also said there remains "considerable" NFL interest in Bethel-Thompson as teams this year will be able to dress a third quarterback on game day without using an active roster spot. The change came about after the San Francisco 49ers were forced to battle through injuries to starter Brock Purdy and backup Josh Johnson in a 31-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC championship game.

The rule change also means NFL teams will likely bring at least four quarterbacks to training camp. And a factor that could work in Bethel-Thompson's favour would be his pro experience, which could make him a more enticing choice to put into a game on an emergency basis than an unproven rookie.

Bethel-Thompson certainly has the luxury of time to ponder his next football move. An argument could be made that his value in Canada only increases with each passing week and especially if a starter on one of the CFL's contending teams suffers a significant injury.

Bethel-Thompson appeared in 74 career regular-season games, completing 1,125-of-1,683 passes (66.8 per cent) for 13,261 yards with 70 touchdowns and 49 interceptions. He also ran 93 times for 513 yards (5.5-yard average) and two TDs.

My understanding is that USFL players are signed to contracts that don't expire til dec 31 and there's also a team option for 1 more year. The only exceptions are if a player is cut or released or if they get a nfl contract.
