This has become a costly transition for the Bombers in terms of roster spots, they've gone from having one Natl. kicker with a PR backup to two rostered players that count against the ratio plus one PR punter, not even sure who's backing up FG's now.

We aren't the only team to do something like this. There is a higher SMS hit with Castillo as well. No problem with any of this if it all works out. Not only from the kicking side but the change in the mix of depth elsewhere.

Weird.  I was just flipping through yesterday's USFL game, and this happened...

L.Hajrullahu punts 34 yards to BHAM 10, Center-R.Navarro. Fair catch by D.Davis.

Looks like Liram took a USFL punting job...

It's not about unfairly roasting players.  Lieggio missed  few field goals and converts during the season and missed the most important field goal attempt in the '22 Grey Cup.  It is the sole reason why significant competition was brought in to potentially upgrade that position this year.  Coaches and management were clearly not content to go into '23 with that position unchallenged.
Imo, there is a group on this forum that unfairly roasts players when they leave and / or can be harsh of players once they are no longer Bombers.  This is exactly what my post is about.  I like to celebrate what they did and yes sometimes they struggle but I prefer not to kick a dog while they are down.  I am well versed on the pros and cons of Leggs and everyone is entitled an opinion.  My preference is to treat players with as much respect as possible.  Hard league to even make it in, let alone be good or great.  The talent around this league is really good and I love to watch players move around the league and what their careers develop regardless of the colour they wear.  I also love to see Canadians get a shot a long career in this great league.

Agreed....I wish Leggz nothing but the best and there's no doubt he bled blue and gold while he was here.    I hope he has a long and successful career where ever he ends up.

That's a bit of a surprise, I think he could still earn more money playing in the CFL.

And, he's only 33. Maybe he is still wanting around for that NFL team to give him another shot.

You need to understand the criticism of players' performances are fair game on the forum.  Personal nsults and belittling is not.  Liegghio has been treated pretty fairly here and there is no evidence he has been "unfairly roasted".  Players have to compete and perform well or someone else will take their place.  Liegghio's performance has been criticized, competition was brought in, other players won the kicking responsibilities fairly.

Liegghio lost the place kicking job.  He lost the punting job. We don't know for certain if he was offered a PR spot or he refused a PR spot but others were deemed better at the position he occupied.

As fans, we should certainly wish him well and hope he lands with another team if that is his goal.  But the organization wanted to determine if Liegghio was the best option available and evidently he was not - at least at this point in the early season.  Again, critiquing players' performances is fair game here providing the comments are fair and within the bounds of the Code of Conduct.

I understand your point and did so the 1st time.  Yup people can roast players; I just don't like it when they leave or are harsh against ex. Bombers.  You don't seam to realize that my post was about how this happens in general on here and how I don't agree with it. I never specifically mentioned Leggs in my original post.  Nothing to do with forum rules not sure why you decided to bring that up.  Seen one person agreed with me.  Let's agree to disagree.

Also agreed....criticism is what it is and as long as it's fair and balanced I don't have a problem with it whatsoever.

not even sure who's backing up FG's now.

I think no one.  Thankfully PKers almost never get injured.

I wonder if he might consider a PR spot with the Bombers if he doesn't get any other offers? We don't have a back up kicker and is the global punter on the PR really a better option? Those that went to practices would have more input and obviously the rookie would be more likely to accept a PR spot initially.

There is going to be a lot of pressure on both kickers. One shank or missed PAT or FG and some will be screaming.

Yes, Castillo will be under pressure to instantly be better than Leggs.  To justify the roster impact I would say Castillo has to give us 3%+ FG, 5%+ PAT vs Leggs 2022 stats.  Especially in the post-season.

If Castillo merely matches Leggs, then it was a really bad move.  Hopefully the punting is a wash with the new guy.

The PR spot idea is moot as otherwise we would have PR'd him instead of the cut!  Of course, if he doesn't get picked up and Castillo gets injured or sucks rocks, maybe we can couch-snipe Leggs.  My money is on another team grabbing him first.

If Leigghio thought he had a good chance of being picked up by another team then chances are he would decline a PR spot, if one was even offered.

That could happen as early as today or not until there is an injury.

All the teams will be re-assessing their rosters this week. Inevitably we'll see some movement to IR lists and shuffling between PR and AR.  Teams will have some new players they want to look at and PR's will be somewhat fluid.

I would imagine the Bombers might look for a new kicker to look at on the PR. Perhaps someone that had been in the XFL or even USFL.  Either that or one of the global players starts taking a few reps as an emergency punter.

A PR spot was not offered to Liegghio.

QuoteWhile there are several examples in the past of players opting not to join the PR, I?m told this year no one declined.

Makes sense. Most veterans would rather move on than accept that role.

It will be interesting to see if another team decides to pick him up or not. My guess was that it would happen quickly or essentially not at all.
