Defensive Secondary

With less than a 1/3 of the season remaining I see the secondary as a huge trouble spot going into playoffs.  Has anyone heard the status of Houston?  Will the Bombers be able to find a replacement for Taylor?  I know it?s the next man up mentality, but Holm is no Nik Taylor, double that with Houston out and it?s trouble, IMO.  Will any PRs step up?  Should Walters call Ottawa?

I agree with you JD, our secondary will be our Achilles heel this year. Currently they play to far off the receivers and are hoping for a miscue by the QB or receiver, that is not a recipe for success. By contrast, in last nights game between Cal and Bc, the Cal DB's had close coverage on the BC receivers all game and it showed in the amount of 2 and outs BC had. We will be in trouble if our DB's continue to play this way.

We need more help here. Why is Walter not signing any DBs? He is signing LBs and DL.

In fairness to the DB's we're not getting effective play from the front 7.

We'll have to see if we gain some injured players back this week on the defensive side of the ball. At the moment it sounds like we might be losing Jeffcoat for a game?

Should still beat the stubble jumpers this week though. Our offence will out score anything they can achieve.

Our offence can pretty much score at will.  Getting into a shootout isn?t the Bombers style though.  I feel Walters needs to pull of some sort Alf a trade for an experienced half to take over Taylor?s spot.  It sounds like Houston will be back, which is a huge win going into the playoffs.

If we get a little bit healthier then we will be ok.  Will take a few licks next couple games, but will help us develop some new faces.

Once OTT is eliminated (IOW next week probably) why not make a play for Kanneh?  GC experience (2?) and win.  Been making big plays at HB in OTT.  He's older, but very experienced and could be a drop-in Taylor replacement.  Shouldn't be a tough sell to him: come here and win a cup and maybe then retire (as OTT).

Remember, Kanneh is the one who single-handedly stole the GC from CGY with the shoestring on a QB (Arbuckle?) east-west 3rd & goal at the 1(ish).

We'd probably have to give up something shiny for him, though.  Like a 2nd rounder?  Worth it to win a cup.

I thought Houston was an achilles or ACL and thus gone till next year.

If Hammy gets knocked out of the playoffs it would be nice to see Santos-Knox come back with Darby. That would be a nice addition for our LBer spot with a guy that knows Wpg plus Darby that knows the system. Not sure what type of contract they both have?

Where is the money going to come from to pay for these players?

Darby might be a slim hope.  But JSK will be staying put in HAM.  He's a great player with many years ahead and works well with Simoni.  They'd be insane to trade him.

Kanneh is a good proposition because he's 32 and nearing the end.  And he's a HB.  And GC experience.  And not many other DBs out there in knocked-out teams.

We're playing game 15 this week. Any player acquired in trade will only have 3 games of salary attached to the SMS. However, I think the idea of trading for a player on  a team that falls out of the play offs is slim and seems a bit unethical IMO. We don't usually see that happen.

I read in Vancouver that Burnham fractured his wrist and will lost for some time. Just thought I'd mention that since we play them twice at the end of the season.
