Wade Miller has announced that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in cooperation with True North will be hosting a concert series in July. Some of the artists to perform include Jason Aldean, Def Leppard, Foreigner Joan Jett, Toque and a couple of country acts that I don't know well because country music is not my thing. This looks like another good way for the Bombers to inject some more money into the organization.

As a concert goer, I'm kind of tired of the same recycled bands listed. Something new would have been nice.

Neither of the announced shows are my cup of tea, but exciting that they are trying to bring live shows to the stadium on a more regular basis.

This will be the first concert at the stadium since 2017 - 8 years.  I remember when they opened the new stadium they said they would attract 3-4 concerts per year lol.  How far they missed the mark with those overly optimistic projections.

12 - 15,000 for each concert would be my guess.  If there are plenty of $75 (or less) cheapies they might have an outside chance at 20,000 for one or both of the concerts.  Shouldn't need to use the upper decks for either artist.

Edit:  ah, I see what they are doing.  Aldean and Def Leppard are performing at Craven in Regina from July 10-12 so they are securing them while they are in the region.  Smart move as it may save some money in negotiations for appearance fees.

This may have a negative impact on an already  declining Dauphin Countryfest as they have been increasingly relying on dinosaur headlining acts for the past 6 years.

I think the pandemic caused the lack of events at the stadium. There was an event every year, up until the pandemic.

There other events, but not very many.  No concerts though

2024 - nothing as far as I remember
2023 - nothing as far as I remember
2022 - nothing as far as I remember
2021 - COVID
2020 - COVID
2019 - NFL pre-season game which was a disaster although the Bombers did accrue a tidy profit.
2018 or 2019 - Women's soccer match vs Costa Rica (I think this drew around 14 - 20,000); Nitro stunt spectacular..not sure what this drew?  10,000 maybe?

So no concerts in 8 years.  Neither of these artists (Aldean or Def Leppard) will come close to selling the 30,000 - 33,000 required for a sellout.  Better than nothing though.

I wondered if Donnelly has ever inquired about bring back the Women's soccer team or the Men's soccer team now that we have brand new turf for an international friendly?  You would think we would have the wherewithal to do so.

When I saw the title I immediately thought pre-game or halftime "Concert Series".  So from the comments this is a non-football night/day thing?

Bummer, as halftime shows these would be awesome!!  Or do pre-shows like BC does.

Peronsally I'd consider going to Jett & Foreigner.

Everyone always says "disaster".  But there were lots of people there (including me and 5 family members) and it was about as entertaining as you'd expect from a PS.  The game was on the line until the very end.

If WFC made money and the attendees were having fun (they seemed to be, no one was walking out until 4th Q), then how can it be a "disaster"?

The only disaster was the insane handling of the post moving gotcha "not good enough" nonsense, and that was 100% the NFL's fault.

I nominate the words "gong show" to describe that episode henceforth: The "NFL Pre-Season Gong Show".

I remember listening to Foreigner back around 1980 and thinking they were cold as ice. I guess they should be congratulated for milking Rock and Roll for 50+ years!

Those performers and bands are a bit tired, but will probably get people out and make the team some money.

Good stuff.

I guess I am too old. Forty years ago I loved their music. Been there done that.
This getting old really sucks.

Still waiting on Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Pearl Jam double bill!  :D

It was a disaster in the sense that attendance was horrible for the game.  I watched it on tv and the stadium was mostly empty.  "Official attendance" was something like 21,000 but there was definitely nowhere close to that number present in the stadium.  It would definitely discourage any further exploration of hosting pre-season NFL games for the forseeable future, maybe forever.

The promoter lost his shirt for the game and rightfully so given the outrageous ticket prices.  He tried to pull the same stunt a year or two before with an outdoor WHL hockey game at Mosaic Stadium and the ticket prices were so poor they had to cancel the outdoor game.

Agree with you on the fiasco with the goalposts.  The Packers were ridiculous with their complaints about the supposed dangers involved.
