That whole play was a total mess. One of the receivers shouldn't have been there and after catching the ball after a tip, I'll give him a pass. Good alertness to even get a hand on it.

Thanks guys good 1st gdt

See you next time

The best I can say is that I don't think we had any injuries. A couple of players didn't do badly but more that did do badly.

A box of apples and road maps awaits in Winnipeg. Can't play 97 players next week. lol

They will have no issues cutting away the chaff next week.

Seeing Bombers dont play for another 11 days now. Does anyone know what the next cut down date is? Is it the final one?

I was not able to stream the game (I live in Calgary). Any feel for any of the rookies that played that might make the team? I know it is too early to get all that bent out of shape but am worried about the LB crew with Biggy out of the mix for the 6 games. Lots of holes to fill but I think the organization is up to the task.

Chauncey Rivers was great! Strong DE play
I'd give QB Wilson another strong looksie
Fox and others at DT had great push up the middle
OL got engulfed a few times

Quote from: Sir Blue and Gold on May 20, 2024, 10:32:18 PMWe've had one week's worth of training camp playing an early road pre-season game.

The first quarter is really all I'm willing to take out of this game at face value and that was our a mix of starters and backups against their number 1s.

Streveler looked a lot better in game than he did Saturday in practice. I was really happy with how our defensive line looked early.

Barriere and Wilson were disappointing which is too bad but I'm sure they'll both play better in a couple weeks. It's a really tough ask to come in and run a pro CFL offense in one week week.

You never want to lose but I wouldn't spend any energy worrying. It's a very early pre-season game against a more experienced home team in a year with a new special teams and defensive coordinator.

It makes what Pigrome accomplished in his pre-season games last year all that more impressive.

I don't think there is another mandated cut before the final cut. In the old days there was a cut after the 1st pre season game.

However 97 players is a lot to deal with even in TC. Need to give some players more reps etc. We have 20 DB's and I'd think 3 or 4 could be gone quickly. Similar number of receivers still in TC.

Sort of but not really.

Wilson made plays too as soon as he started breaking contain and playing scramble rules football. It's the exact same reason Ford in Edmonton is not starting this year. Pigrome played virtually every play like that. It's cool they can do that bur majority of QB production can't come that way at the pro level. Barriere looked about as bad as a rookie with one week of practice can look but he was trying to operate out of the pocket and trying to execute the offense. It may look ugly on TV and he wasn't successful today, but it is the right way to play.

Give it another couple weeks and let's where we are then.

Pete

what I liked
Wallace looked decent esp. for his first game
Ayers made some plays
Rivers too
Castillos still got it
Interior d line held up
what I didn't
Barriere
Coleman was so so
Kelly struggled at safety
Murphy was invisible at receiver
Cuickshank and other returners didn't show much
As a whole it looked like what it was = a game where we played a lot of rookies unfamiliar with our defense/offense  and the cfl.

According to O'Shea they're going to hold onto everyone till the final cut down.  This game came very early in the TC schedule and it wouldn't be fair to eliminate players still struggling to grasp the concept of CFL game. From that perspective it would mae made more sense to play more vets in this game and the rookies in the second.

Kelly wasn't in at safety.  Hallett was at safety and Kelly was at fieldside defensive halfback.

It was hard to tell who was responsible for Bane on that long pass?  The Bombers were playing cover 3, but both defensive halfbacks seem to be in the same area.

Kelly was fine though.  Not great, but nothing in terms of standing out.

Pre-season Game Recap | WPG 12 SSK 25

"...With Collaros remaining back home in Winnipeg the Blue Bombers brought three pivots to Regina in Chris Streveler, Eric Barriere and Terry Wilson.

"All three of them would like a couple plays back, I'm sure," said O'Shea. "But they showed some poise in there, they ran the offence well and they managed game stuff very well. We put some points on the board and had some drives. It's one of those things where we had certain packages in there to allow the guys to try to flourish, allow the new receivers and running backs to flourish. We'll be able to do a little more stuff and the guys will enjoy that."

Streveler, the only QB with CFL experience, got the start and in about 20 minutes of work, completed seven of eight passes for 65 yards, while rushing three times for 25 more, in what was essentially a snapshot of what he can bring to the attack.

His best stretch came during a 12-play, 79-yard drive in the first quarter that took seven minutes and seven seconds off the clock and resulted in a 26-yard field goal by Sergio Castillo. He didn't attack downfield with his throws but put the ball in safe locations. What we didn't see were any new wrinkles Buck Pierce might have planned for Streveler in the attack, with that clearly not coming until the regular season.

"For me, personally, it just felt so good to be get back out on the field, be back out with those guys," he said. "It's natural to have those pre-game feelings – that's how you know you're ready to go. I don't know if it's nerves, excitement, butterflies... all of it. It's exciting and that's how I know I'm ready to go, especially putting that blue back on. Even though it's a preseason game, it still means something. You still want to go out there and move the ball, play clean football and be back out there with so many of the guys I love. It almost made emotional before the game thinking about how much this means. Being where I've been and being out of the game for a year, I don't take any opportunity to put the pads back on for granted because I got hurt in the preseason with the (New York) Jets and how quickly that can happen. It means more to me know than it ever has....."

Probably, but they also probably wanted more starters in for the home game.
There will be alot less playing time for many of these rookies.
Too long of a stretch between games here
