Woodbey: "I'm just so fortunate to be around a group of guys like this."
Jaiden Woodbey took a moment to survey the Winnipeg Blue Bombers locker room — the place absolutely buzzing after a mammoth win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Saturday — and his face then opened up with a grin as wide as the Red River.
"I'm soaking this all up right now," began the versatile first-year Blue Bombers defensive back. "It's such a good feeling to be in this room and in this moment. This has been such a great opportunity.
"I'm just so fortunate to be around a group of guys like this and to be a piece of the puzzle."
Being a piece of a puzzle — a player earning a paycheque in the pro ranks — has long been Woodbey's dream and that quest took him from his hometown of Fontana, California to Florida State to Boston College to the Los Angeles Rams, where he was one of the final cuts in 2023, to the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League.
And then... nada.
So that's when the 25-year-old stepped pushed all his chips into the middle of the table for one final play.

Looks like he overlapped with Pokey at Florida State 2018-20, wonder if they even knew each other.
