Title: The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Post by: Jesse on September 13, 2025, 02:46:27 AM
Do we need a preamble? It wasn't much fun to watch.

Good:

- Brady Oliveira had the best half of the season.
- Defence certainly did enough if we'd stop turning the ball over on our own goal line.
- Pokey is a real one. Just need someone to get him the ball.

Bad:

- I'll throw Hogan's name in here. Need to find ways to help Strev out.
- Not trying to either throw the deep ball or going to T-Will, just gave up
- I thought it would be an easy time out call when Demski lost a show when we were in the Hamilton red zone. Our time management definitely costs us at times. Throw the challenge, call a time out. They don't do you any good if you still have them when the game ends.

Ugly:

- Same as always: Turnovers. We honestly have most games in hand...but then we literally throw it away.
- Strev is, and I'm sorry, just incompetent. He does not know where or how to throw the ball.

That's mostly it. There are not too many thing wrong, but they are very large things.

Good

Brady played very well tonight.Without him we would have lost by a bunch.
ST's were good tonight.

Bad

The Bombers are not fun to watch in any aspect of the game.

Ugly

Hard to believe we will make the playoffs this year.

Good
OL seemed better than last week, against a good DL, but might have been because Brady was kicking butt so the HAM D couldn't just go all-rush

Ugly
Teams clearly just play super conservative against us and wait for us to implode with TOs.  They know they don't have to go out there and win, they can just wait for us to lose.  We are the new '24 EDM.  TOR's gameplan in GC 2024 was this.  Ugly & sad

Good:
Olive Oil in the first
Pokey
Bend-don't-break defense in the first

Bad:
Strev
OL
Run D in the second
Pass rush
Missed tackles
Lawson

Ugly:
Worst-timed turnovers of all time continue

Ugly

I'm reconsidering my auto renewal options (through 2027 commitment) on STs for a measly $100 off a GC ticket I may not even want to go to.

Some hard to send. This will have to be made over the next week!

Yes, I have essentially three options:

1) return my grey cup tickets. I'll still retain your first right refusal on my season tickets for 2026.

2) keep my gray cup tickets at the $100 discount but then I'm auto renewed to 2027. Not sure I wanna do that.

3) return my grey cup seats and opt out of having season tickets for 2026

Well, I just hope you're in the minority.

good:
the return of the Sergio we know
Lawson Jr attacked all night but mostly held up
tribute to Ted Goveia
the short kicks, though we didn't get they were at least entertaining

bad:
Strev

ugly:
Strev. that futile last play rush taking a pounding for no reason whatsoever was the cherry on top of a real stinkeroo.

ugly for Hamilton:
leaving Wheatfall uncovered

Good
Brady running the ball hard in a futile effort

Bad
Turnovers, especially to start the game, a real gut punch
Our D line, I m so tired of watching fat Thomas waddle around on the field and do absolutely nothing

Ugly
Streveler, shouldn't be playing but too stubborn to give Wilson a shot, he absolutely couldn't be any worse, it's an insult to us as fans to watch this buffoon try and make plays

Hamilton's blown coverage on short yardage, worst gaff I e seen in pro football, Hamilton should be embarrassed—nobody had the where with all to call a time out, pitiful

hopefully it's just emotions talking (we have all been there)

i have said before - if the riders are in the cup (not playing the bombers) i have a buyer for our GC tickets.  any other teams in it and we will go.

cant imagine not having seasons tickets - summer nights at the stadium - time with my adult son is not something i am going to give up anytime soon. the fact we also are in the cheap seats makes it more palatable.  thought about moving to more expensive better seats but i don't think that is going to be the case.

the signs are pointing to a slump in performance.

Good-Olivera outstanding in first half
-secondary for the most part kept BLM in check
    -strong special teams
Bad-Streveler proved he is not a starting CFL Qb
   -losing the turnover battle again
   -poor play calling [Olivera barely used in second half}
Ugly-Strevelers gift INT in first quarter
    -Pass rush
    -Bombers playoff hopes

It's not inevitable, this season is probably lost but an intervention by 2 of the 3 amigos in the off-season could right the ship before it sinks further into the waves.  Still a ton of excellent talent on the team and a reasonably good coaching staff, a refreshment of approach and a couple of key player moves could put them back in the running again next season.

Yes, our pass rush or lack of it is terrible. I am surprised our DBs can cover for that long. Vaughters and Person have disappeared. Thomas and Korn missing in action most of the the knight. 4 DTs between our 7 D line.

14 points on two Ints.

Also agree need to feed BO20 the ball more in the 2nd. half.

Also bad, the crowd in Hamilton. Was at the game last night, far to many empty seats.

1) Streveler as our QB 2) Streveler gifting 14 points in 1st half with his inept performance 3) our stubborn head coach having faith in Streveler giving bombers the best opportunity to win this game Should I go on LOL

The bad:

Are we last in turnover ratio, sacks made, ints and biggest big plays given up? Watching the Argos/Elks there were more more sacks and ints made then we've had in quite some time.

We used to lead a lot of those categoires.

Watching these other games, the quarterbacks have significantly more time to pass. All of the teams that played this week.

We probably have the worst O line in the CFL. With younger  players that we have been bringing along for several years. And others that are well past their prime.

It seems like a weaker d line can be worked around by a good Defensive coach. Like we have.

Weak Oline...

Big problem.

Quote from: Pigskin on September 13, 2025, 07:58:32 PMI am surprised our DBs can cover for that long.

I'm not.  I think our whole D is built around cover.  We're not bad at pass rush, I seriously think we've completely abandoned it.  Except for some token Fatboi bull rush just to keep them slightly honest.

I think it's a conscious choice, and that's why I think we're good at it.  It's also why I think it takes DBs so long to get up to speed, and why we need 4 legit DBs.

It's a weird ploy.  But maybe it suddenly everything is working right it can be effective.  And it's not like we haven't been trending this way since Sayles (and certainly Walker) left.

Oh, he can absolutely be worse.  You forget '12-'14 where every week we were saying "oh, <next QB 5th in the roster> can't be worse than <loser 4th string who just failed miserably>".

Careful what you wish for.

Quote from: Jesse on September 13, 2025, 01:30:56 PMWell, I just hope you're in the minority.

Amongst normal ST fans, there will be a lot more of Goldies than you might think.  Especially dumping their GC tix.  Dumping the '26 ST will be less though, it often takes 2-3 seasons of complete suckitude before real fans bail (see: SSK with Dickenson The Lesser).  Remember, this is only our first season of garbage.

But as for forum-member uber-fans?  Goldie surely must be the only one.  Snap out of it, Goldie!!
