Josh Johnson, just wasn't good enough. 10 Games, 18/138 7.67 avg.

Well those screaming for Johnson's head will be happy. I thought he'd be relegated to the PR, for the pitance it would have cost us, not sure why he wasn't put on the PR, especially at this time of the year, a couple of injuries and we're scrambling again...

He could have refused to go on the PR.

Woli back on the 6 game. That will hurt.

Kind of figured after the way he left last game.

Sometimes I wonder if we're letting player back on the field way too early. This has been a fairly common theme.

Yikes. Woli back to 6 game IR. Chris-Ike and Wheatfall added to the AR. A 3rd QB added to PR. I guess the short stint on the PR for those 2 was to give them a chance to get healthy and up to game speed.

Tomorrow's daily IR report will be interesting as usual. We're expecting Bryant to back to be practising. So there will be some additional changes to the AR on game day.  Will Randolph continue to start and if so, does he bump a Canadian to a back up role? Or does he become the 6th OL? Either way that should move Vanterpool back to the PR I guess.

Never a dull day.  Didn't expect Johnson to be released outright but he may have declined a spot on the PR.

So three qb's on the PR?  Is there some advantage to putting all three additions on to the PR knowing one will be on active soon?  Make room for someone else while making other decisions?

Hart has had some Nfl experience, played a couple of games with Seattle and on their practice roster, has had some injury issues - his smaller size doesn't help but he has skills and is fast

My guess is that we have 3 guys to evaluate now. Winner gets the AR spot for the season, second gets a PR spot and third gets the boot.
I think Scott has the most potential, but Dolegala will probably get the AR spot due to his experience in the CFL.

Really happy to see Wheatfall back on the active roster. Thought he looked dangerous when he started before he got hurt, and was targeted a decent amount. Think he will be another solid weapon for Collaros. Lots of speed and and athleticism in that group now.

Johnson, LOL.  So many of us were like: "where's the production?".  MOS really talked him up, now boom, bye bye!

His best catch was last game the refs lied and called the rail tip-toe a non-catch.  Other than that, he was basically our sole attempt to have a hitch screen game, which never worked out.

And whoever said he got his chances... he sure did!  We stuck started him a ton of games for his status & production.  And we tried those hitches like 2-4 times a game.  I think once we got decent yardage.  I'm not sure why MTL can run hitch screens with impunity and get 10Y every time, and we struggle to have any hitch game at all.

Wheatfall back was the tipping point.  However, now we have 3 Kenny-types on AR (probably): Kenny, Pokey, Wheatfall (can we just call him Wheatie?... makes a nice-sounding triplet).

Wheatie it is then!  As long as mods don't get ornery...
(I wonder what the team nickname for him is?)

CFL.CA transactions are always not timed in sync. Johnson was removed but Woli wasn't moved to 6 game IR. I wonder if that was a delay or an error originally. I know he hurt his ribs again but didn't think that would put him on IR again.

New players added to PR but the 2 on PR didn't get moved to AR as announced. How hard is to get these things done?

Could it be something to do with filing the contracts with the league?

Does the league have to wait for contracts to be finalized before they make the "official" changes to the rosters?

Are there paperwork delays, confirmation of signatures, etc. that may delay at the league level, but the teams already consider the paperwork "done" and announce the roster changes?

I don't know but that shouldn't impact Woli to 6 game IR. Probably doesn't impact PR moves back to AR.

K. Wilson and Cole are both back practising and eligible to come off 6 game IR. With Bighill out, getting Wilson back would be good news. He could take back his spot at WIL and Jones could move to MLB. At least that's the version I would imagine.

Cole is a good player but if all things are equal, I don't see room for him on the AR at the moment. If he is looking more ready to play than Wilson that could change the dynamic.

Bryant practising at " full " so hopefully he is back and that will cause a shift in options on the OL. Not only for starters but impacts the ratio for back ups potentially. That said if we add another import LB, then something else has to give in the ratio.

Whitehead still nicked. While he hasn't racked up huge stats, he was very important in both games against the Riders. On LD his return gave us better field position to run down the clock and get the additional FG. In the BB he had a shorter play that gave us a chance for the FG and then win.

If he can't play, I guess we see Case back. Losing Woli means we need a player that can return and back up at receiver.

A week of possible domino effect at a few spots.

I think the league and the teams don't give a rat's butt about the fans when it comes to public information.  They seem to love hoarding their precious data and proclamations.  We're lucky if we get it 3 days late and a dollar short, and through a sick game of "telephone" filtered through 2-4 intermediaries so no one has any clue what is actually the truth.

I stopped following and trusting the roster changes listings years ago.  Have they been accurate even once in that time period?

Yes but ultimately he dropped down the depth chart.First by Case then Whitehead. So that's why I think Case would be the next man up. Because we lost Woli this week and Whitehead is not 100%, the need for a receiver is more critical. Case seemed to get more PR from the coaches as a receiver that also returned, then the other way around?

He also had better average return yardage etc.

However, not sure if Whitehead plays or not yet.

Interesting observations on Hart, pre-draft

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/penny-hart/32004841-5269-5794-21c2-9776a5a0a3d4

Overview

Smallish slot receiver who pairs good play speed with above-average quickness out of his breaks. Tape showed his lack of senior production was mostly due to inaccurate throws and that notion was backed up by strong practices during Senior Bowl week. Hart's size and limited catch radius will require an accurate passer, but his speed and suddenness paired with his return value could make him a Day 3 draft selection.

Strengths
Big early acceleration off the snap. Opens early window for quarterback on speed outs and crossing routes. Glides with steady stream of turnover in quick feet. Consistently gains space from route bends and breaks. Stair-steps coverage off of him. Unafraid to work into traffic. Ladder climber with a big vertical. Has catch-and-go juice with wiggle in open field. Offers kick- and punt-return value. Escape artist quality in tight quarters. Looked like he belonged at Senior Bowl.

Weaknesses
Smaller than the average slots in the league. Needs to allow routes to breathe rather than rush them. Doesn't leverage off defenders as well as he could. Would benefit from varying route speed. Occasionally bullied near the line by bigger defenders. Waits on throws rather than working back. Small catch radius requires accurate passer. Lack of size shows up when playing deep ball.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penny_Hart

His Wiki page shows a lot of "transferred to injured" lines during his NFL stints... have to wonder about those.
