Getting rid of willie will be just as hard as getting rid of Neufeld. They aren't just players, they are leaders and the life of the locker room.

Willie is still effective, in no way is he abandoned. Neuf probably has another year too.

We saw what happened last time we got rid of our best leader, ah33...

We didn't have much luck finding a better DT for several seasons either. That doesn't change the idea of hanging on to any given player too long.

Pretty sure Willy has no intention of retiring yet and I won't be surprised if Kyrie is invited back as well to fill a rotational role. He's played great in recent games and despite the traffic jam at LB, he's one of the few that remained healthy and available throughout the season.

The oldsters I think will not be part of the team next season are Stan, Nichols and Zach and maybe Neuf. if he decides to retire.

Jefferson and Neufeld are team leaders and still both capable of playing another year. Neufeld has an advantage due to being a Canadian. I don't think he plans to retire but that could change.

K. Wilson could move from a semi starter to more of the rotational / injury back up as a DI. The question is do we have a spot for a DI LB that isn't named Ayers?

I / we don't really know what the team has in mind for Jenkins,Dixon and Jaworski or any newbie brought in for TC 2027.

Not all of them will be willing to accept another year on the PR.

The ratio is subject to change every year in the sense of what the roster looks like coming together. Example: Vaval being able to start at DB if necessary means we don't have to carry an import DB as a DI.

If we don't start a 3rd import OL, we gain a spot for someone else on the roster.

So. Too early to tell until we see how free agency plays out. Some of this depends on some SMS questions and for others it's a ratio, succession plan on where to add younger players.

I see Stan, Nichols and maybe even Zach hanging it up after this year is wrapped up.

If Willie was ineffectual AND we had a younger, cheaper replacement waiting in the wings, then I'd be good to move on from him. He's obviously not the superstar he was 5 years ago anymore but he's an effective player still. I'm not too worried about his salary and I don't think he can negotiate a raise, so his current salary paired with higher cap is a relative decrease.

Ideally we would unearth a superstar pass rusher on an ELC who can play on the other side and complement his skill set and basically give us another Jeffcoat.

I'm not trying to pick on Jefferson. I mentioned the PR DL we have that may or may not have a future. Those 3 are currently under contract IIRC.  What we do in free agency is also a factor. I mentioned Ormilado ( sp ) is a potential free agent.

OTOH, Jefferson could just as easily be re-signed tomorrow. I doubt he wants to retire.

How did we go from rookies to vets?  :D

Williams is one of my favorite rookies...if I were a player I'd stay away from him! He's so physical and I love it. I hope for him he gets NFL money for us I hope he stays.

Looking at the broad view of rookies that we already have that may be positioned to unseat some veterans. In TC we thought Jenkins would become a full time starter but then he got injured. Reese may have passed him not that he got his opportunity.

Jaworski was a 2nd year player they had high hopes and he got injured quickly.

Essentially either a rookie or 2nd year PR player has to unseat somebody to make a roster.

I think the pecking order has been established and will carry on to next season.

-Fletcher
-Reece
-Jenkins
-Dixon, Jaworski

The last 2 have been stashed on the 6-game so they might get another shot in TC, which should inspire them to prepare like mad bulls.

If any of the above is willing to accept PR assignment they should get another chance due to injury, and guaranteed injuries are going to happen along the D-line.

That's about the size of it. We don't know what the injuries to Dixon or Jaworski were, so they may not even be available for the start of TC. Those 3 may may have been around on the PR for more than 1 year ( Jaworski ), so it may be make or break decisions.

In that sense Jenkins is the 1st immediate question. He was projected as a starter early days of TC and then got injured and passed by Reese.

He'll be one to watch in the EDF to see how many reps and how he's progressed. We only started adding an extra DL as a DI after Ayers got injured.

Ayers seems healthy now so he may even be activated and Jenkins bumped this week. I'd like to see Ayers back on the roster but that's the trade off

Against a QB like Alexander I want as many DL as possible to keep fresh legs on the field and sustain the edge.  Gatkouth has been out so he could be an addition as well.

I think Gatkuoth is being stashed, doubt he's injured but he doesn't contribute enough yet to take up a roster space.  Reps. for Reese, Fletcher and Jenkins are more valuable when rotating with Willy, this is not the time to carry any passengers.

I wonder if Tanner Schmekel has peaked?  He seems to be an adequate plug but doesn't get much penetration and he comes across as well below what Jake Thomas provided consistently. I guess they'll retain him as Natl. DT's are hard to find and the radar screen has gone blank finding the next one.
