Looking to sign in USFL. Technically that doesn't eliminate him from attending a CFL TC but indicates his current plans.

Depending on what we plan to do with Collaros and Brown there is not room for another QB for much beyond another arm in TC.

IF ZC is re-signed, I expect it to be with a low minimum and a substantial bump for games played and milestoanes achieved.  To sign him to a large base contract is just foolish at this point in his career.  Not saying he shouldn't get paid as a starter, but he's going to have to earn it with starts, assuming we keep him at all.

I'm OK with Pavia spending time in another pro system before/if he ever comes to us.  I think a lot depends on the braintrust's evaluation of Elgersma and his development.  If we re-sign Zach I'd be OK with keeping Elgersma on the Reserve roster next year if we feel he needs more time to develop.  If we move away from ZC with Brown as heir apparent, Perkins as #2, Elgersma as SY, we could bring in Pavia as an insurance policy on the reserve roster, assuming that's how we want to use the reserve.

Re-signing Zach again would be daft, whatever their other options are it's past time to move on and begin exploring them for better or for worse, the status quo is a no go. Bring on the future because the solution that worked so well in the past no longer achieves the expected results.

"He's the best QB we have" isn't really an option for O'Shea any longer, this past season was his last chance to show he could still  perform up to expectations and he failed to do so on too many occasions, plus he spent half the season in the sick bay. They're currently fighting to avoid last place in the West, this season wasn't a hiccup in his great career, it's the inevitable end.

As for Elgersma another season on the RR will do him no good, time to progress him to the next level and see if he can adapt to the new responsibilities given to him, whatever they may be.

They need to take a pro-active approach in developing him to see if he has the potential to become a CFL starting QB within the next 2 seasons, if not ignore his Natl. advantage and move on with recruiting new import QB options.

Ya, that's what one would think.  But if Zach wants to play, and Mafia is receptive, then I will promise you right now he'll get paid the same as last contract plus a modest bump.

His punishment for being always hurt and throwing INTs and losing a lot in 2026 will be his bump will be smaller than it otherwise would have been.

I'm not so sure this time around that Mafia is receptive though... We might finally have new ideas.  Maybe.

But let's be honest, if Zach could take hits like every.other.qb and keep playing our season would have been fine.  We'd have 2-4 more wins and be vying for 2nd, not 3rd-5th.  But he can't.  It's a sucky situation.  Either we find a way to make it so he doesn't take hits, or we will repeat 2026 next year.

Elgs isn't doing any sneaks.  I don't know why it comes up once in a while.  Even if Perkins is #2, he's still doing the sneaks.  Like Strev was for us for a ton of games.
