Can you win with a no-edge RB?

Folks still calling for Peterson to rotate need to check the stats.  The king will not be spelled by him.
Not rotate but throw him in once in a while as a change of pace/fresh legs.

Does Rankin play a whole game, every game?

Been there didn't do that.  Adding Peterson to the AR was a waste as he wasn't used.  Each club has a different circumstance.  In our case the additional player that is available by not dressing Peterson is a better option imo.

We can give Demski and MCI a few touches.  Screen to Daniels, sweep to a speed guy.  These are options we already are not doing and I would mix in long before I start Peterson.

Full disclosure I like Peterson and he will get his shot eventually.

It would still be a great idea to use another RB with a different skill set along with Brady.

Brady had one very obvious weakness and there's a way to get around it but we refuse.
My wife is amazing!

Brady is the best Canadian we have on either side of the ball. Sure replace hin.

Sure you can win without a no-edge RB, Toronto and BC win with very use of the run game. We use Wilson, Demski and White on jet sweeps and shallow drag routes across the middle when the linebackers drop

Brady is our best NAT and contributes significantly to our offense. Neufeld has been decent on the O line, whiles Demski's contributions have dropped off this year. Same with Kramdi. Lawson has been serviceable at DT but hardly a force to be reckoned with, and Kelly, I can't see him starting for any other team than ours.

So rather than bring in an IMP RB to give us the 'edge' run, I'd like to see us significantly upgrade our NAT talent, its the fundamental building block of any roster. We need a dominant NAT O lineman like Chung and Desjarlais used to be for us

We gave up a league worst number of sacks this year, and upgrading that unit has got to be priority #1 with a bullet!!

Quote from: jdrattops on October 18, 2026, 03:38:29 PMThe Bombers are trending to be the 9th place team in 2027 unless there are changes in the process, coaches and/or management.  Amazing how some shyt on the teams best player that's not being used enough.

In the touches Brady got, did he show he could do things like Rankin & Horvath & MacMahon were doing this week?  When Brady's recent 3 runs are stuffed and put us in bad 2nd & longs, there is no OC who is going to keep bashing their head against the wall.  He wasn't going to get any better, or suddenly edge escape for 40.  Only the other RBs do that.

Did you watch all the games?  I don't know how anyone can watch those other guys destroy D's, whether up the gut or on the edge, and then say Brady's lack of production isn't part of why we are losing.

I don't know what you all just saw, but I saw Rankin win the entire game himself all 4th Q.  Gut, edge, whatever: he reamed us huge on almost every run.  Worst of all, he made it look effortless as he dances around our guys and smiles and laughs after without having broken a sweat.

Brady's best run barely equaled Rankin's bottom 10th percentile runs that game.  And no, it's not all OL.  Our OL may be bad, but it's not 10X worse than EDM, and in any event Rankin is usually running where there are no OL (or DL) -- that's the whole point of edge runs you know, stay away from the traffic?

If all we had to watch was Brady, I would think Brady is fine.  But we see all of these other guys doing magical things that our back couldn't even dream of doing in a million years.  And so ya, I'm going to compare ours to theirs.

Quote from: Jesse on October 18, 2026, 05:01:12 PMYes you can win with him and no he's not part of the problem at all.

Think of the handful of games this season where we were up late.  We have the ball.  We just need to close.  You know, like EDM in this last game.

You want to bleed clock.  You want low risk.  So you want to run.  You know, like EDM in this last game (or us when AH33 was here).

I'm pretty sure we lost most games like that.  Because Brady couldn't run for squat and we went 2 or 4 & out.  Rankin needed to do it.  And he ran like 12 times for like 80Y in one drive and ate up 7min or so.  We made them have to throw, what, once? twice?  What a joke.  Does Brady do that?  Not in recent memory.

And so us winning close games is a 10-20% proposition.  Because the O still has to take risks and complete passes.  EDM just breezes through like they are 2021 WPG with zero effort because they have a RB that threatens every spot on the line, as well as the dump threat.

So ya, that's a problem.  And by that, I mean Brady.  Because he can't close like Rankin.

Quote from: jdrattops on October 18, 2026, 06:43:51 PMAgreed, so is it Brady's fault that O'Shea and Condell put together the offensive roster that doesn't include a player like this, or Walters can't find a scat back?

Ya, but then what is Brady good for?  If you have Rankin, why are you ever fielding Brady?

The Rankin runs work because he's a threat everywhere.  The Brady runs fail because he can only hit the A or B gaps.  I'm not sure how people can't see this?  We can stuff every gap perfectly and Rankin will just run around the whole mess to wide open freedom.  Other teams stuff every gap perfectly and Brady is stuffed 99% of the time.  He only excels when teams have decided to back off for whatever reason.

Having Brady is like having a REC that can only catch over-the-shoulder on the boundary side.  Sure, he'll get those great catches sometimes, but why voluntarily cripple your team with a REC who has limitations compared to every other teams' RECs?

The ONLY way Brady would be useful with Rankin is if every play you have both backs beside the QB, so nobody knows if it's edge or gut.  And you can't do that every down.

And yet that nobody Lawrence had like 3 phenomenal runs where he ripped SSK a new one.  Runs that Brady could never make.  So much speed, so much shiftiness, so much ability to get to the outside.  From a nobody.  Now go watch Brady's runs in the EDM game again, then get back to me.

BC can't be considered a no-run team anymore.  Horvath has reams of yards and big runs, and he has to share duties with Butler!

And the no-run teams left (TOR, HAM?, MTL?) can only win because they have (had, for HAM) QBs that can make tough 2nd down conversions late in the game to put up more points rather than just bleed clock.  We 100% cannot do that, not in and since the '22 GC.  Who's been our RB since then?...

Why can't Brady just improve?  He says he's the best.  Why can Rankin, Powell, Horvath, and even Lawrence & Scott do it, but not Brady?  Does he have some impediment?  Is he inherently slower than the rest; is he a hoggie or something?  Why does he have less vision?  There's often a better opening right, but he'll go left.  Why are these things written in stone?  He can't train to be faster?  He can't train to see the openings?

Quote from: jdrattops on October 18, 2026, 06:43:51 PMHarris, and Cornish weren't edge runners and have GCs.

AH33 and Cornish would both hit B-gaps and then bounce it outside if that was the open space.  I think both had more speed than Brady.  Brady stays where the hoggies are.  If you want to tackle Brady, just track a hoggie.

I think the problem is this: power backs aren't the answer in the CFL anymore.

Oullette is the closest to Brady, and he's having a tough year.  Ya, he busted 1 or 2 vs MTL, but those were more on the edge (showing even Oullette might be better...).  But Oullette gets stuffed in the inside a heck of a lot, forcing SSK to pass more than they want to.

Mills is another like Brady.  He's also having a bad year: injured most of the time.  He arguably has more power than Brady.  But he struggles to get big runs in, even though he's probably more reliable at getting you 5.

The speed & scat backs who can dance and evade and hit any hole anywhere seem to be taking over.  They look dynamic and fun, and make D's look stupid.  They also seem to tire the D out faster, with them having to chase the entire field -- and thus increase their value as the game goes on.  The D's facing Brady aren't tired of anything by the end.  They're happy we're feeding Brady to them for 2Y.

Undoubtedly the '26 GC will be won by a scat back.  And if EDM manages to upset MTL, it'll be solely because of Rankin and he will win GC MVP.

We need better use of our offensive capabiliites that's for sure but it's defence that wins games and our defence has been crap pretty much all season long.
