Two top receiving weapons return for Saskatchewan Roughriders against Montreal

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are finally getting the band back together in the receiving corps for Saturday's clash with the Montreal Alouettes.

Samuel Emilus and KeeSean Johnson will both officially make their return to the lineup this week. It marks the first time that Saskatchewan's top three receivers, which include Kian Schaffer-Baker, have been healthy at the same time since Week 8.

Emilus suffered a lower leg injury in Week 12 against the B.C. Lions, which landed him on the six-game injured list. He previously missed three games with a foot issue.

The Montreal native has caught 38 passes for 514 yards and five touchdowns through seven regular-season games this year. He signed a contract extension in the offseason, which made him the second-highest paid receiver in the CFL this year.

Johnson sat out last week with an ankle injury. The 30-year-old leads the Riders with 147 targets, which he has turned into 101 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 regular season games.

Canadian receiver Dylan Djete has been placed on the practice roster to make room for the returning weapons. Shemar Bridges, who started last week, was released on Thursday.

The Riders are also expected to get a boost along the offensive line, where left tackle Payton Collins returns after he was a late scratch last week. However, centre Logan Ferland is listed as a game-time decision with a knee injury which caused him to miss practice on Wednesday. Daniel Johnson is the sixth offensive lineman, while Zack Fry could be activated from the reserve roster. Erik Andersen has been placed on the practice roster for this week.

Other changes will see defensive back Antoine Brooks Jr. demoted to the practice roster and defensive end Aaron Patrick placed on the one-game injured list. Devin Adams returns to the defensive line rotation, Malcolm Bell will provide depth in the secondary, and Justin Herdman-Reed is back on special teams.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-8) will host the Montreal Alouettes (13-3) on Saturday, October 17, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET. The two teams played on Thanksgiving this past week, as Davis Alexander threw five touchdown passes to lead Montreal to a 44-24 win.

The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, CTV, and Crave in Canada, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on TSN 690 (English) or 99.5 Montreal (French) in Montreal and 620 CKRM in Regina.

Montreal Alouettes sit Davis Alexander, start Dustin Crum against Roughriders
by 3Down Staff  October 16, 2026

The Montreal Alouettes will start Dustin Crum at quarterback against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday. The team released its official depth chart on Friday.

This will be Crum's first start of 2026. The 27-year-old joined the team as a free agent in February. He has completed 10-of-13 pass attempts for 86 yards in spot duty this season, and rushed for 32 yards and five scores.

The six-foot-one, 210-pound passer started six games for the Ottawa Redblacks in 2025, posting a 2-4 record. He completed 70.9 percent of his passes for 1,771 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions, and rushed for 429 yards and 11 scores.

The 27-year-old started 14 games for the Redblacks as a CFL rookie in 2023, going 3-11. He threw for 3,109 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions that year, and rushed for 741 yards and nine scores. In 2024, the Grafton, Ohio native threw for 320 yards and two interceptions.

Davis Alexander will dress in a backup role. The soon-to-be 28-year-old has gone 13-3 as a starter this season, helping the Alouettes clinch first place in the East Division. He has completed 72.1 percent of his passes for 5,257 yards, 35 touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Also sitting out this week are star receivers Tyson Philpot and Tyler Snead, who are first and second in CFL receiving yardage with 1,809 and 1,474 yards respectively. Both have been placed on the one-game injured list with shoulder issues. Alexander Hollins and Marco Dubois will dress as their replacements.

Other key starters resting this week include running back Stevie Scott III and cornerback Lorenzo Burns (head). Shomari Lawrence will tote the rock offensively, while Neil Campbell gets the start on defence.

In positive news, long snapper Louis-Philippe Bourassa will make his return to the lineup after recovering from a knee injury. Linebacker Donovan Manuel and defensive tackle Bryce Ganious will dress as depth pieces. Linebacker Riley MacLeod and defensive end T.J. Guy have been returned to the practice roster in corresponding moves.

The Montreal Alouettes (13-3) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-8) on Saturday, October 17 with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET. The two teams played on Thanksgiving this past week, as Davis Alexander threw five touchdown passes to lead Montreal to a 44-24 win.

The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, CTV, and Crave in Canada, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 690 (English) or 99.5 Montreal (French) in Montreal and 620 CKRM in Regina.

Dave Naylor:

The @MTLAlouettes are still determining who plays and who rests versus @sskroughriders this week. #CFL

Mathieu Bédard:

Dustin Crum taking the reps for the @MTLAlouettes Davis Alexander will probably be back-up for the game vs @sskroughriders

The @MTLAlouettes are resting their offense. No Davis Alexander, Tyson Philpot and Tyler Snead vs
@sskroughriders tomorrow

A major trio won't play for the Als but still a lot of starters along offensive line and defence are playing.

As we've said, you can't rest them all.

Blue In BC

Riders have a better chance of winning with those 3 Als players not dressing for the game.

It appears as though the league and its teams are still running parallel websites, a function of the new website rollout. If you go through the Roughriders website to the depth chart page (at this moment) there is no link to tomorrow's depth chart. If you click on the link the Roughriders posted on TwiXter, it takes you to an almost identical page with a link to the depth chart.

The new website rollout has been a mess in this regard.

I thought part of the plan for the league was to standardize every team's website so they could be formatted and updated from one central location when supplied with team specific info, possibly managed through AI. That hasn't happened yet, for example bringing up another team's roster page can be a 3 or 4 click process.

I would love Crum to beat Harris.  Imagine Riderville if that happened.  OMG.  :o

Montreal is going to go primarily with the running game today, can't see the Als beating the Riders, horns and all!!
