I'm not a boomer...

I don't really agree that forums are dead or even dying. The rider forum is proof that maybe they are even growing. Socials are so bad for proper conversations like we get here.

Maybe reddit comes close, but it's really just a remix of the format you get here.

Why not be in the official, sanctioned bomber forum instead?

Lol, I'm like a decade off being a boomer. I'm also in the tech industry. You simply can't have convos like this on X or FB. Sorry.

And I'm not lying about rider forum growth. Check it out. The daily post count is insane.

I won't argue most people don't know about these forums. But I will argue that uber fans wouldn't be interested if they knew about them. Sure, maybe zoomers would turn up their nose... But those aren't uber fans to begin with...

Call yourself an old soul then. We're likely around the same age but I can admit that this is technology from when I started using the internet and we're not likely to bring in fans in younger demographics to this from of media.
My wife is amazing!

For fairness, add in MBB's GDT: 441 posts.

That still puts Bomber forum traffic at half Rider traffic?  What's up with that?  They get much more engagement across the board.  Why are 'peggers reluctant to air their beef online?  Are the stubblejumpers more tech-savvy?

I just don't get it.

I will note that the average Riderfans post is 1 sentence, as opposed to the detailed analyses we get here, so it might even out to around the same word count overall.  But, on the other hand, they have like 10X the number of posting members.  Weird.

Just saw your post - not sure of everyone else but I just retired and thought I would have plenty of time to work the boards and really get into Bomber discussions - was sooooo wrong - between my wife's job jar and my continued work on my doctoral dissertation I am absolutely snowed under just about all day long - and forgot how **** hard it is to accomplish both, given how strict my proctors and the boss lady are - now that I have plenty of time NOT!

It must take a different mindset to participate, on Reddit, FB or YouTube you don't get any sense of community, it's always random comments made by random people.  Maybe the appeal of it is comments are basically anonymous and posters can say whatever pops into their head since they're throwing them into a void and not expecting any reply or dialogue to develop. One thing for certain peoples brains are being rewired in the digital age.

Fan forums are the dinosaurs of social media.

The CFL Forum shut down last December. The Extra Point is the only team sponsored CFL fan forum remaining. Several fan created forums have also faded over the years.

If you look at the numbers for this site you would see that it peaked in 2009 and has been on a steady decline since then. 2009 shows 4433 new topics and 121,530 posts. The only metric that is higher today is "people" online and I would attribute that to AI/Bots and not actual eyes on the content.

Riderfans did a great job of establishing themselves as the one stop shop for all chat CFL. For the first 10-12 years that Extra Point was operational, CFL chat was a separate sub-forum. I suspect that a number of posters didn't look at the that sub-forum and some probably didn't know it existed. As others have pointed out, Blue Bombers fans had more than one option for fan forum with two remaining today. I suppose the sub-Reddit could be considered another option.

As for the team promoting this forum, I don't see that happening. Everything toady is about content and getting people to view that content. A forum is not content. Other forms of social media serve a purpose whether it be TwiXter (and its clones), FaceBook, YouTube, Insta, TikTok, Podcasts, etc. Some social media is the content while other forms of social media provide links to the content.
