This year we may not have had much opportunity to spell Oliveria. Games were always close to the final gun. Only a couple of games where we had a win locked up.

The running game needed to be diversified from the get go, Demski is no longer used as a diversion and Pokey and White only get the occasional jetsweep, while Chris Ike rots away on the sideline as does Peterson on the PR. I won't be too surprised if Clercius, Peterson and MCI all leave in FA, they have not been utilized effectively in Wpg.

Quote from: Blue In BC on October 06, 2026, 05:43:38 PMWhat if we bring back Condell and he demands a trade? I can't imagine he's happy with how he was used in 2026.

Well, even "underused" Brady won the rushing title, so he can't really complain about that.  It means he gets touches, especially since he never has any 70Yers like Horvath.

If he gets less touches than he wants, it's almost always due to our O going 2 & out repeatedly most games.

Quote from: Blue In BC on October 06, 2026, 03:29:20 PMThat's the problem. We don't even look to find that import RB on an ELC to stash on the PR in the event of an injury.

Don't forget we have a history of being pretty crap at finding quality IMP RB.  You might have to go back to '12-'14 (pre-AH) to find one.  And even then I think they were pretty bad.  Might have to go back to Blink!

The other teams find quality young IMP RB.  Doesn't mean we will.

Quote from: Blue In BC on October 06, 2026, 01:38:52 PMWell if Montreal offers us Alexander or Philpot then yes. Any trade always depends on what the return will be.

I'd trade for Alexander, but not Philpot.  If you paired Philpot with even a Dru-level QB the results wouldn't be much better than what we have now.  Absolutely none of those 60Y downfield or long-crosser plays MTL is doing would happen here.  The OL can't hold for more than 2.5s and the QBs can't move.

Actually, I might not sell out for Alexander -- I'm convinced the hammy will act up sooner rather than later, and repeat nearly every season.  And when that hammy acts up in the post-season, MTL will have the same result as last year.

I might trade Brady for Rourke or Kelly though.  Neither is as good as Alexander, but there's no reason to think they'll be plagued with injury going forward.

We also seldom use Daniels as an offensive weapon.

Can't blame him for wanting the ball more often but 2 and outs hurt that happening. We often behind on the score which has an impact on the run game as well.

Obviously a better QB situation helps with wanting a better receiver trade choice. So every trade has multiple logic criteria. Everything from player age, injury history, type of team chemistry and SMS trade offs come into play.

I'm not saying anything about Brady is not top dawg. Players, coaches and fans love him for good reason.

The Als and Lions have the best 2 QB's and they are passing teams 1st. The CFL is a passing league in a 3 down system.

Philpot is also a generational player and would upgrade our receiver group. You are correct he wouldn't have as much output with our QB's.

Respectfully, Montreal is NOT trading Alexander or Philpot.

Any CFL club trying to make a trade for either of them would have to give up way too many high end starters and draft picks.

Not going to happen.

Quote from: dd on Today at 01:30:37 AMGiven the amount of wear and tear Brady takes, and the practices he misses, I'd be using Peterson to spell him off in games that are out of reach one way or the other. Load management throughout the season has never been implemented with him, he just gets all the reps, and his body is paying for it as he advances in age. Peterson showed well last year as I recall in the game he played when Brady was out hurt
We will spell Brady more as he declines, while he is still in his prime, hard pass

Suggested yes, did it happen no, for a good reason.  You don't take our top chef out while he is cooking prime rib LOL, Peterson came on the AR for one game, got no reps at RB, very telling

I am ok with it if we are out of the playoffs or if Brady is hurt bad enough not to be effective

Quote from: Ridermania on Today at 02:56:35 PMNot going to happen.

Even a top chef has a sous chef. They may have decided Peterson has no future but then the question is why not replace him on the PR. We don't even need the back up to be a Canadian.

Part of the issue for Peterson is he is not an ST player in his skills set.

Most teams have a 2nd RB that gets dome game reps. Part of that is maintenance but it's also to utilize different skill sets in game planning.  Part of it is preparation and injury insurance. Succession plan.

You're a little fixated in Brady getting a few plays off. What if we're up 28 points with 5 minutes to go in the game?

Spelling any player can happen for a multitude of reasons.

spell when up 2 plus scores and late yes, one of our weakness under MOS imo, a very good point

A good point about Peterson and teams, never knew that

I think in the next few seasons succession planning will come at RB, a little early this year imo, we know what Peterson is and I like him.  He will see the ball late in the season if we tank.  I think we will be in the mix if we win this week.  I don't think Zach should risk his health too much but he is our only hope.

Peterson is the perfect guy for now, cheap and effective.  He won't be replaced b/c he is cdn.  He might be gone before we actually use him as our last backup did that, can't remember the name but he is still playing.

I am not fixated, I'm realistic.  Peterson isn't worth the roster spot.  I am happy to win now not try things just b/c.  Brady is king, the king shall rule.  The Bomber brass appear to agree.

Clercius and Daniels are pretty much a trade off, Daniels being more useful in blocking, Clercius the occasional nice catch.  Can Clercius find a job elsewhere?  Of course, and maybe make the step that BOO did in Edm.

Peterson is just another Int RB, easily replaceable.

MCI has been a fixture on teams, and biding his time behind Brady.  When he was drafted, there was concern about his upright running style.  He seems to be getting more touches now, I wonder if he is still a work in progress on that front.  Not sure anyone values him more than we do.

As to trading Brady, never going to happen.  If they wanted to go forward without him, they would not have made him the highest paid RB in the league.  Nothing he has done this year suggests he is any less a player, and no return for him (yeah, MTL is gonna ship us Alexander for him) will be worth his value.

Walters does not make bad trades, and MOS won't let his heart and soul get traded.

Succession planning is why there is a PR. You never know when a starter goes down or for how long. What we don't know is how confidant the team is about a given player on the PR. It's reasonable to think if he sticks that long then they see something.

Players on this years PR might be starters next year. Getting early game experience helps that transition. Smith comes to mind. He's doing well but struggled a bit early on and didn't seem to get any reps in 2025.

Even with that I'd prefer looking at an import at the same time. One with different skill set that could double as a returner or a receiver alternate.

Craig Ellis comes to mind as a guy that could do all sorts of stuff as an offensive weapon.

In previous seasons we were often up by big scores and coasting. Not so much this year where we can use alternate players.

Peterson is a Canadian which is normally more important when you start a Canadian RB. That allows being able to maintain the ratio if necessary.

Yes MCI is always flashing on teams and he gets a few reps on offence. That said it's still next to nothing.

Daniels  has been targeted a few times on offence and looked effective. I'm not sure where I'd rate him on his blocking or even how often he's the choice ahead of ELI or MCI in different sets.

The point being, is why don't we give him more opportunities on offence? It's not like any Canadian receiver not named Demski is producing much.

Wow, all these years, I thought Peterson was an Int.  As a Nat, he has some more value, yes, and in the game he replaced Brady, he did flash, but before and since, not really.  As said elsewhere, unless he becomes a teams demon, I don't see it.

Johnny Augustine has made a good living off teams, and gets the odd rep at RB.  I don't think Peterson is at his level.
