Uh, dazn and CBA revenue share written in stone?

The only impediment is maybe they consider the dazn money a year after the fact and up the cap in 2028. But that's the very latest they can push it back, and if it comes in for then it'll be even bigger than if they do it next season!!

I'll believe it when I see it. Regardless teams aren't just going to give more money to 3 or 4 players at the top.

I discussed the earlier increases how the players association didn't seem to have any idea how to spend increases to the SMS. It's one thing to negotiate revenue sharing but come up with a plan.

I'd argue about an increase at the bottom ELC as one area to improve. The 2nd would be an increase in roster size. More money at the bottom might improve the quality of imports willing to come north.

That's how it works the vast majority of the time. Updates to the minimum salary or number of roster spots are a CBA issue. They can't be changed. The salary cap fluctuates with revenue though and can increase each year.

That's why I said the CFLPA needs to come up with a plan on what to do with the increase. OTOH, I don't imagine they would complain if the minimum was raised. Why would they?

The plan is written into the CBA, it increases the salary cap. It's going to the players. Anything beyond that is something that won't be negotiated until the next CBA.

And generally, the focus is not on minimum salaries for rookies. I think the focus is usually on getting cfl vets more money. They care as much about new people coming in.

I just checked on Collaros' concussion history.

He's had too many already

Before
Coming to Wpg.  2014, 2016, 2018 (2)

How many with Wpg? "Upper body injury".

I hope he retires. At the latest, end of this season.

Well, he appreciates your concern but is still choosing to play (according to his last interview).

By that definition a $500K increase to the SMS could just be given to Rourke or Alexander for example. Each team will have about 30 - 35 veteran players. How many will get an increase?

A higher SMS is used during free agency and not all the top players are potential free agents.

This discussion was discussed in 2024 when we had an increased SMS and teams didn't seem to know how to handle it.

Not much of a plan.

Kelly's about to get a new contract and will likely get 200-300 more per year, if not higher.

It all just depends on whose contracts are up. It is what it is.

That may happen but it would hardly seem to be what the idea of revenue sharing was about.

The CFLPA is a union, members get to vote, I doubt the majority would support the increases go to the few at the top that are already doing very well.

The union has nothing to do with how contracts are negotiated. GMs get to decide how they want to divide the cap space allotted.

That freedom is reduced if the CFLPA negotiates an increase in base pay which could eat up most of the extended cap space.  Say going from $70k to $75k for entry level players which would be a bump every player would demand. You can't pretend they don't have any say in where Cap increases are spent.

Market price should be enough to prevent a QB from being paid $800k alone, as there has to be multiple competitors for his services to drive the price up that high.
