That has been browns downfall throughout his career——throwing risky passes and turning the ball over. He ll never change, ever. I honestly think Perkins could do better, and is at least worth some reps when we re in the Montreal gMe herring smoked, put him in and see what he can do vs gulp Elgersma who we know can't do anything. Perkins has clearly shown they ll have to respect the run which is more than you can say for any of our other Qb.s

I'm worried for next season without a healthy Collaros. Maier obviously isn't the solution. Dickenson and now Dinwiddie have given him opportunities and he's done nothing with them. MBT isn't consistent. And we've seen Brown.

I guess they'll run it back with Brown and they can sink the savings into the o-line.

I think Elgersma will be doing a lot once he learns WHAT to do. The reads are not automatic for him yet, won't be by next year either. How we fill the gap until the future is here is the question.

I don't see Trevor Harris retiring after this season, why would he?? He hasn't missed every other game due to head or neck injuries like Collaros, he plays in 2027, while Collaros doesn't.

I don't see Trevor Harris retiring after this season, why would he?? He hasn't missed every other game due to head or neck injuries like Collaros, he plays in 2027, while Collaros doesn't.

He's had a good late career run but he's 41 next year and had concussion problems of his own. If they don't win the cup this year a lot of people will say it's time. I wonder if Mace makes a play for Kelly in any event. We all know his history but he's been clean a couple years and Mace knows him from Toronto. The QB pickings are going to be pretty sparse past Kelly.

True, Rourke, Alexander and Kelly all have the ability to scramble away from trouble to buy more time to allow deeper routes to develop, a skill Zach used to rely on as well.

There have been a few QBs who have been successful pocket passers in the CFL. McManus & Calvillo come to mind. Ricky Ray wasn't very athletic.

Elgersma needs more time, and I think they'll be patient with them.

Times have changed, they now need 7 bodies almost exclusively focused on pass protection to keep the QB safe in passing situations. The complication arises when the opponent only rushes 3 or 4 and half the pass blockers have no bodies to block, which leads to a numerical advantage in the secondary for the defender.

Elgersma has never been given a chance to do anything.  The Hamilton game, Condell called an ultra conservative game.  We saw in Green Bay that he could chuck the ball, take the training wheels off.

Agree that he's been given basically no chances to do anything other than excel in O'Shea's rookie humbalizing  program but he didn't exactly carve up the NFL which is why he was cut. He made a couple plays but by and large it was check down to the back in soft zone pre season coverage or pretend to check downto the back and then run into said soft zone coverage.

He's a project for sure but it shouldn't surprise anyone because of the route he took to get here.

Looked like Elgersma was wearing concrete shoes in pre-season, once he sets he's not able to move his feet quickly to adjust or escape pressure.

with the quality and defensive schemes with d Linemen it is becoming more imperative to have a mobile qb to extend plays and disrupt defenses, with Harris being the lone exemption with his quick release and ability to read defenses. While improving the oline helps if your qb is stationary its not enough.
 the biggest gap between us and the teams that are in contention is at the qb position and the scary thing is that gap is only gonna grow. I don't see us as a destination for Kelly and no other qb is available next year to make a difference.
 You only need to look as far as Ottawa and Hamilton to see the influence of a qb in this league.

To be expected I suppose, an OC like LaPo might be able to make it happen with Brown and the right tools at his disposal, re-visiting Matt Nichols. An OC like Collaros would try to duplicate what Rourke and Alexander are doing using substandard QB equipment and an O-line that isn't great at pass protection.
