Knee jerk as it gets and its telling who liked your post, I would like him to be a long term Bomber
Quote from: The Zipp on September 07, 2026, 05:43:47 PMbased on that attempted "tackle" he should be cut.  amateur effort couldn't even get the guy out of bounds
Nah mistakes happen and Woodbey is a good depth player at the very least
1. He is hurt and can't be cut
2. He won't be cut
3. You don't get better by deletion
Quote from: gobombersgo on September 07, 2026, 08:20:21 PMTeams have a 30 day window to increase their practice roster by 5 players.

The Bombers have a bye after the Banjo Bowl so I'm guessing they will bring in guys the week after the bye.

Maybe they will focus on players that can help out this season as opposed to bringing in guys to look at for next year.
Will be 90% for the future imo but got some holes so one can hope

Quote from: dd on September 07, 2026, 04:06:07 PMI think we win the BB for 1 reason --- 30,000 fans screaming and making noise disrupting Sasks offense like their fans did to our offense....this can't be understated, HUGE advantage to have the crowd and its associated noise working for you.

But it hasn't been working much this season. Maybe was useful against mtl. Maybe.

I've noticed fans have been getting complacent and quiet. They need to wake up.

If my ears aren't ringing, we're not doing it right. I need at least 50% THD on my eardrums to be happy.
Never go full Johnston!

we didnt lose that game cause of Woodbey, its our secondary that's the real issue. We don't seem to be able to cover man to man other than Williams. Texada was beaten badly, and Vaval was also picked on, Kelly cant cover, and with this defensive scheme we don't even come close to getting an interception relying on reacting to receivers  vs anticipating plays
If you cant over man to man its hard to blitz and after the opposing team has adjusted to our zone play we are hooped

Woodby was not good on Sunday and has not been good this year.

Woodbey wasn't supposed to be more than a speller, but injuries have forced him to play more, I think.

He was adequate in that role, and learning. Now he's in more I notice he's often getting fooled by trickery, stuff that the older lbs don't fall for. And some have noted he's from the moxey school of tackling...

Let's keep in mind he's only 2nd year, and with not much action last year. He is probably nowhere near his ceiling.

But the team is weaker without him, as who is going to do that role now?

I had high hopes for Woodbey but now feel he's been average at best. I'm not sure if he has a higher ceiling or not.

Regardless, if he has in fact suffered an achilles, then he will be unavailable for a year or so. He's also a pending free agent and that means he'll be replaced next TC by necessity.

Who replaces him in the mean time? IDK but it's too bad we traded Tezino who I thought would be next man up getting an audition.

Good LB's are out their waiting for opportunities, "how soon we forget", final TC cuts Micah Cretsinger and Ja'Kobe Clinton who both looked excellent in pre-season but were up against the number of spots available on a club already front loaded with LB's and a loyal coach who favours time invested over ability sometimes.

Not the fastest dude, saw Holm and Smith whip by him in pursuit of Busby on his long gainer. Smith is super fast, I've seen him keep up with Holm and Vaval now, he has the speed and ability to play Safety if they decide to go that way.

Some D stats while we wait for tomorrows practice.

Jones: 61 DTs.
Williams: 49 DTs.
Holm: 43 DTs.
Griffin: 35 DTs.
Smith: 32 DTs.

Ceresna:  14 DT, 6 QS.
Fletcher: 13 DT, 3 QS.
Jefferson: 13 DT, 6 QS.

Ayers: 14 STs.
MCI:    7 STs.
Smith:  6 STs.

Team QS 19.
Team Int 4.

Bombers 1st pick 2025 Shay 3 STs. 1st pick 2026 Gatkuoth 4 DTs.  I look at other young Canadian LBs and wonder if the Bomber are not giving Shay the opportunity to show his talent, or we made a mistake in drafting him so high.

Thanks Jones has been great all year, some don't give him enough credit for the season he is having.  No surprise Major at #2.  We miss Griffin big time.  Smith a rising star.  Didn't know Fletcher had such good #s.  Ayers continues to show why he is on the roster as is a demon on teams.

Shay is a giant question mark as to why he's not used. On the surface it would suggest he was not a good draft choice that high.

Stats can be deceptive but the list is interesting.

Williams for example seems to make a lot of DT's short of a 1st down. He's also involved in making plays that were not his primary assignment. Essentially he is very reactive in support across the defence.

I'm not sure I will be as " happy " as some about the number of tackles by Jones. TFL or tackles close to the LOS are more important than those made in chase mode 7 yards down the field.

An example was his forced fumble on Mimbs ( IIRC ). Great that it caused a turnover. Bad that it appeared that was his man and the tackle made 8 - 10 yards downfield.

Obviously it's not certain it was his primary responsibility rather than a scheme issue failure that he had to adjust accordingly.

We don't have stats that tell us plays made that prevent a 1st down for example or yards gained before tackle.

That would be an interesting analysis for a given game.

Also noting that our defence has given up the 4th amount of points in the West. There is an association there on how long our offence stays on the field and what field position looks like.

So it's not black and white. I don't think anyone would suggest our defence has been good in 2026.

Surprised to see Vegas have SSK as the favourite by 1.5.

The roughriders won that game in part because it was in regina.

dd

That is weird. Riders should have won in regulation time had their kicker not sucked so bad, but to be favoured in Winnipeg's home game, no way. Bombers will crush them this game.

John Hodge described the way Jones plays WIL as more of a multi-purpose rover. He took on a different role against the Riders than he played against the Als and previously, he wasn't used as much in the rush and he even covered some shallow pass routes. Will watch again to see if he's playing more traditional MLB or WIL.

As for Shay, he might be better in a traditional D as a stay at home MLB, maybe the trick is to play him in combination with Jones used as a roving playmaker. A future with Shay starting along with Smith and Kramdi, could take some of the ratio burden off the offence.
