Blue Bombers agree to trade with Ottawa

WINNIPEG, MB., September 2, 2026 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has acquired the negotiating rights to American quarterback Ty Pennington (Northern Arizona) from the Ottawa RedBlacks, in exchange for American linebacker Kyahva Tezino.

Tezino was originally added to the club's practice roster on August 24, 2026.

Haha I got Tezino's signature at the fanfest after him being there for only 5 days.

Wonder what the thinking is here, maybe no more room for LB's and they dealt Tezino for whatever they could get in return.  Seems to me Ottawa should be holding onto all QB options.

I don't get the thought here about this trade. It does clear a spot on the PR so maybe there is another player that will be added shortly.

Neg list players come and go and Pennington may never come to the CFL.

Who did we drop from the neg list to add Pennington?

I don't follow neg. list signings at all because they usually don't amount to anything, but the Bombers added Eli Pancol to their neg list recently, a 6'2" 205 lb. former Duke receiver that runs a 4.33/40.

The motivation could have actually been the reverse on this one. Tenzio was pretty good UFL player and he might have figured out he was never going to play real snaps in Winnipeg anytime soon. Could see a guy like that seeing if he could go somewhere where he could play and Winnipeg then just got something at least.

Yeah, I got his signature as well. I joked with him that he wasn't in the team picture.

Maybe there will be a part 2 to this trade before the trade deadline. Help the REDBLACKS out with this trade in order to get 1st dibs of any player Ottawa is going to unload.

Could be they offered him a PR spot and he turned it down, so they decided to trade to get something of value for him.

We'll never know but it's probably just as probable if not more than we just decided to deal him after a couple games.

Why not, we are stacked at LB and maybe we like this guy

Tezino was already 30 years old, so not like he's a young guy trying to make the roster.

Probably something along these lines. There's rules around neg list players that if a team doesn't want to sign them, they have to release them from the net list - so we may have signed him in order to not lose him and then flipped him for a prospect that's further out.

Probably no one specifically. There have been a lot of adds and deletions recently and not all are 1 for 1. But Tenzio himself just came from the neg list, so the QB can be seen as taking his spot.

Why not we wanted that qb? Why does it have to be OTT came to us? We see the writing on the wall for Zach. Certainly he isn't lasting until 2028.

This move gives us more ammo in the hopper at basically no expense. This could also be us not being as positive elgs is the future...

As for OTT, I'll bet my left nut they get Kelly next season, so what do they care about neg list qbs.
Never go full Johnston!

I don't see anything about that at all. You bring the best talent to camp at every position that you can and let them duke it out.
