Am I missing something?  People keep saying we gave up two first round picks.  Everywhere I have looked, the Bombers traded a first round pick in 2027 and a conditional 2nd round pick in 2028 for Dru Brown and a 2027 second round pick in 2027.  If we re-sign Dru Brown the Bombers will have essentially given up one first round pick....the two second round picks basically cancel each other out imo.

Does it suck if the Bombers finish last and the pick is last overall?  Yeah, but if you actually pay attention to the draft over the years you will find the first overall pick is pretty well never the best player chosen and there are as many quality Canadians, and likely more quality Canadians picked in the latter 5 or 6 rounds, than the first round.  The key is to have a decent number of picks each year (not necessarily high picks either) and good Canadian scouting (something the Bombers appear to have lacked the last number of years).

Just don't be a Brendan Taman and trade away 80% of your picks every year.  Never go full Taman!

No one knows the conditions of that 28 pick yet. It almost certainly is "starts x games". How big is x? Because if it's 3, we're already there.

It would be nice if wfc would tell us what the conditions were! Or if naylor and Farhan can leak it.

In the grinding run-mostly game last night we 100 percent should have brought on Perkins, not elgs. Perkins would put the bc d in the same bind the bc kid did to us.

Not sure how anyone can look at that game and not see how dru is not a starter. Every coach decided, pregame, that dru was not to be trusted throwing more than 15 yards. And certainly nothing over the top.

That's why every single bc d player didn't protect the deep threat, and they all were cheating up to the line and shorter pass.

Dru is supposed to be a starter of 3 years. And we gave him a playbook similar to what bc gave their raw rookie! Only runs and short pass.

Dru threw only one longer pass all night, a mid zone crosser into a cleared out zone. Pretty sure that was still only 15y before yac.

That's not a sustainable model and shows no one has any confidence in him because of his 4 INT game.

I look forward to Salter starting the next few games and being fed a taste of reality through a straw, a better defence is going to contain him and crush his soul.  The interceptions come soon after the running around in the backfield starts. Maybe he should check in with Tre Ford to see how his career is progressing?

Guess we will see how Tre does today... and yes, Salter had the game of his life, but it wasn't the only game of the rest of his life.

Yes, there is film out there, and we had a half's worth when he came out and destroyed us in the second half.  It was embarrassing how he ran against our vaunted D.  He took some sacks, and then started running around them.  I don't think his soul got crushed. But sure, we will see if there are SAM's and Wil's that can wrap him up next time out.  Depending on how long Rourke is out.

Is Dru injured enough that he'll miss time?

Our Oline can't protect anyone right now

Zach sucks as he has aged out.  Dru is a showing that he is nothing more than a backup and a bottom-of-the-barrel starter down there with the likes of Meier's in Ottawa.

I can't help but think someone like Bethel-Thompson would have put up better numbers with this Bomber team.

Next season is going to be bad. Like '95 or '05 bad.

Jake Maier, Dru Brown & MBT will not get this team to .500.

I find it funny that Dru Brown basically gave us what Collaros does but the reaction is so much more negative.

You look at our quarterback play (both the stat line and eye test) in the Banjo Bowl win and the last night and it's exceptionally similar.

It's not acceptable for Brown to turn in a middling performance but some will glaze Collaros for the last two years mostly very adjacent play.

Makes no sense. And if we're going to be critical of anything, it was the protection last night. Just God awful. Maybe among the worst of the season bad from Q2 on. Can't win like that.

you qb should be able to make one lineman miss. Brown has ZERO escape ability. He doesn't read defenses well enough to find a check down and cant avoid a tackle to save his life,  . For every 2nd down conversion we've had in that situation it feels like we've given up at least an equal amount of sacks.
As far as Condell's strategy in those situations, Defenses can key in on Dru and bring blitzes outnumbering the oline with no fear of having to pay for it.
Sure we can improve blocking, but Dru has to take responsibilty too, as well as Condell. Its pretty obvious the book on the bombers is, put them in second and 6 or more and blitz. It's baffling why we don't go with more protection or even have Dru roll out once in a while.

Well, Dru's in his prime and the expectation was that he'd come in and take the starters role or prove that he was going to be the guy for 2027. Zach's doing his swan song.

But if you look at the whole year, Zach's been more trustworthy. His TD-INT ratio is back to 2-1 as opposed to 1-1 the last couple of years. Had his health been up to the task, we likely have a couple extra wins.

Yeah, I'm getting that feeling too.  With the old guard (Collaros, Harris, MBT, Fajardo) aging out to varying degrees we're in for some really painful years coming up, especially combined with our over the hill Oline and unthreatening receiving core.

The one brilliant QB play was the 76 yard scamper on short yardage.

Singer was stuck behind other players and has bust out when he got the chance.

Is Perkins in a similar situation?  Could a week of practice reps make him an effective starter?

Do we have anything to lose?

Not going to happen, instead they'll work on Brown's attributes and try to expand on them. The TD pass to White is an excellent example of a throw we rarely see Zach make, actually leading him enough that he didn't have to break stride on his way to the endzone.

Half expect Zach to be taking first reps at practice come Monday, we're totally clueless as to the extent or the duration of his injury.

The most popular player in Winnipeg is the backup QB...

OTT and HAM have both rotated their QB's unabashedly.  Are we in that much different a situation?
