Rolan Milligan Jr. returns for Saskatchewan Roughriders against Elks
by 3Down Staff  July 22, 2026

The Saskatchewan Roughriders will have Rolan Milligan Jr. back in the lineup when they host the Edmonton Elks on Thursday night. The team released its official depth chart on Wednesday morning.

The 31-year-old suffered a shoulder injury in Week 2 when he delivered a blow to B.C. Lions receiver Justin McInnis. He walked off the field under his own power, though he later returned from the locker room with a wrap on his shoulder and his arm in a sling.

The two-time All-CFL selection was a full participant in practice this week and was officially deemed questionable on the team's most recent injury report. He is now set to go and will start at his usual spot at boundary halfback.

Milligan Jr. has made 217 defensive tackles, 35 special teams tackles, 14 interceptions, two sacks, one forced fumble, and one touchdown over 54 career regular-season CFL games with the Roughriders. He was named the league's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2024.

Jonathan Edouard
, who started at boundary halfback last week, has been moved to a depth role. Jaxon Ford will start a fifth consecutive game at safety, as Nelson Lokombo remains on the one-game injured list with an ankle injury.

Mathew Sexton, who returned seven punts for 217 yards and one touchdown over two appearances with Saskatchewan, has been moved to the six-game injured list with an ankle injury. It remains unclear who will replace him as the team's returner, as veteran James Letcher Jr. remains on the six-game injured list.

Saskatchewan and Edmonton are currently the two top teams in the West Division standings. This will mark the first of three regular-season meetings between the clubs in 2026.

This will be also Saskatchewan's first game since the car crash that killed team captain Jayden Dalke and Regina resident Bhishma Rajyaguru. Both individuals will be honoured before kickoff.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-1) will host the Edmonton Elks (5-1) at Mosaic Stadium on Thursday, July 23 with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Elks survived a late scare to beat the B.C. Lions this past week, while the Roughriders were on bye.

The weather forecast in Regina calls for a high of 31 degrees and sun. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 880 CHED in Edmonton or 620 CKRM in Regina.

Royce Metchie returns for Edmonton Elks against Roughriders
by 3Down Staff  July 22, 2026

The Edmonton Elks will have Canadian defensive back Royce Metchie in the lineup when they visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Thursday night. The team released its official depth chart on Wednesday morning.

The 29-year-old hasn't played since last September, when he suffered an Achilles injury that ended his season. He made 31 defensive tackles over 10 regular-season games in 2025 as Edmonton's starting safety.

The five-foot-eleven, 203-pound defender was originally a third-round in the 2018 CFL Draft out of the University of Guelph. He has since played 94 career regular-season games with the Calgary Stampeders, Toronto Argonauts, and Elks, making 341 defensive tackles, 13 special teams tackles, five forced fumbles, two interceptions, and one touchdown.

Metchie
will dress in a depth role at safety behind Chelen Garnes, who has made 22 defensive tackles and one sack through six starts this year.

The Elks have been forced to make a change along their offensive line, as Carter O'Donnell has been moved to the one-game injured list. Brett Boyko, who is coming off the six-game injured list, will start in his place at left guard.

Boyko has played 71 career regular-season CFL games as a member of the B.C. Lions, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Elks. The six-foot-seven, 305-pound native of Saskatoon made 16 starts for the Elks at right tackle last season. The 33-year-old started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers, dressing for one regular-season game in 2017.

The Elks have also activated Canadian receiver Carter Kettyle and American linebacker Brock Mogensen.

Kettyle was the team's third-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft out of the University of Alberta and will dress in a depth role. Mogensen is listed at middle linebacker behind Dariel Djabome, the team's first-round pick out of Rutgers University.

Edmonton has also moved Canadian receiver Zach Mathis to the reserve roster, and American linebacker Jadon Pearson and Canadian defensive back Tyshon Blackburn to the practice roster.

The Elks and Roughriders are currently the two top teams in the West Division standings. This will mark the first of three regular-season meetings between the clubs in 2026.

The Edmonton Elks (5-1) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-1) at Mosaic Stadium on Thursday, July 23 with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EDT. The Elks survived a late scare to beat the B.C. Lions this past week, while the Roughriders were on bye.

RIDER PRIDE ALIVE IN THE PEG
2025 PICKEMS CHAMPION!!!!

I don't see the "changes" charted.  That's odd.  a) I think it's required, b) I can't recall a team ever forgetting to chart it before!

Makes it hard to see changes at a glance, without parsing the 3down text.
Never go full Johnston!

If EDM wants to win this, they need to show that they have been spending their off-season figuring out how to stop SSK's infamous dink & dunk.  And they need to show they've solved the issues that BC used to shut down Rankin last week.

This game may give us the first glimpse as to which of these teams is the poser.  SSK's schedule up until now has been remarkably easy.

Is it required? I feel like I so rarely see it.

Always blessed to see a Rider loss.
Obviously it will be very sad with the Dalke passing.

Go Elks, Cody stick it to the Riders.

One seat filled for every 4 or 5 empty, yet the Riders continually claim 30,000 attended.

Never bet against Cody, he's fuelled by "I'll show you" hatred.

They're averaging around 27k, I think. I don't remember them claiming a bunch of 30k games.
