We need some consistency in officiating, the Toronto receiver gets a 25 ya and DQ in our game for a feeble head slap on the helmet that was hardly detectable, yet awe can come in later on a sliding Qb, head shot , put his arms up like he didn't mean it and he only gets 15????Give me a break, the calls should have been reversed , it should have been a minor misconduct for the head slap and 25 on the late hit on a sliding Qb. The league has got to eliminate that hit out of the game, it should be automatic DQ. As for jumbo coming in to defend his Qb, I'd love to see him come in a full throttle and paste him, if you're going to get a 15 ya penalty, get a good one.

It worked out for the Als but was a low % play to Philpot.
Zach did the same think against the Elks twice in one game.   On second and medium he threw bombs rather than manage to just get the first down on a short quick hitter which has a better chance of success than a bomb.  Not sure it was the play Cordell drew up or a Zach audible but it happened twice.

Contrarian view point, Adams slides late, Awe turns to avoid helmet to helmet. I truly believe Awe thought he held up. He could have nailed him worse. He was somewhat pushed into Adams by the other defender.  But I still do believe it was a penalty with no place in the game.

that was my take as well....whether intentional or not it's still a penalty and VAJ could have been seriously hurt.

Reminded me a bit of Simoni's head shot on Collaros in 2019 when he was still a Rider.  That one play created a beautiful butterfly effect.

Those were 2 different penalties however.

You could make an arrangement about how the rules are writen in the rulebook. But, the disqualification was warranted as per the rules. It doesnt matter how hard the slap was it is still a DQ.

Also if Awe had him harder it probably would have been a 25 yard penalty.

I'm not sure it was the head slap that got the DQ, it looked like there was a spit before it.

I missed that. Spitting is the ultimate douche move and fully warranted the DQ, lost a lot of respect for coxie in the process as well.

They've already said it's a new rule this year:

Rough Play:
(c) Punching or attempting to punch a player in the head area with an open or closed hand.

Cut & dried.  You b-slap someone, and it's L25 and DQ as stated in the rule

Interestingly, the rule would make even a "swing and a miss" a DQ... that will rile up some fans if it happens.  If you're going to punch, you might as well go closed fist and make darn sure you connect!!  No matter what you do, it's a DQ.

It was crazy hard.  Maybe just a couple of levels below the Zach hit here as mentioned.  His lifting his hand caused a direct punch to VAJ's face and a snap-back of his head.  I think it was all planned to cause maximum damage while trying to "get away with it" via the "look I'm innocent" antics.

Nope.  Awe was going for the max hit he could get away with with only a slap on the wrist.  I bet he thought he might get a Lev-1 spearing, and was probably overjoyed to see he only got a L15, which was totally offset by the comparatively nothingburger retaliation.  Does that seem fair?

Yes, Awe didn't do the pasting of old because he wouldn't dare these days because precedent says it's an automatic 2-3 game suspension, as well as L25 & DQ.

The hit was egregiously late.  To me it wasn't even a question at all.  It was a bad hit, and not even close to "late slide" territory.

The rules should be amended so they take yardage penalties both for the "late" aspect and for the "too hard" aspect.  Because it was late AND too hard.  Otherwise the DB that knows he's already late will put on more wood because he knows it won't change the outcome -- as long as he's not in L25 territory.

No it doesn't, not with Zach.  There is no short game.  Shorts will be disrupted or INTed.  Forget the short.  It's never happening.  Since '23 Zach has stunk at it.  It takes too long and the D's are already there.  We tried so hard in '23-'24 to get a short game and it never worked.

You're thinking we have all the other short-game QBs.  We don't.

So let's do what he's good at, 1-on-1 bombs, mid-crossers, zone sits, corner fades, gos, posts.  That is his forte.  I've given up on the short game with Zach.  I never want to see him throw another curl again.

Looks like I was right: blue_gold_84 posted on the non-bombers news:

League thought the hit was bad enough to warranty a "hearing".  Since when has the league ever brought ANYONE in for a "hearing"?  That's a brand new thing.  Previously they'd just issue fines & suspensions unilaterally.  Only if you appealed would you get a hearing.

Dude pushed it too far, and his antics of trying to look innocent as he decks a QB aren't fooling me.

P.S. The hit he put on VAJ's head would have put Zach out for a month.

A swing and a miss gets called as Objectionable Conduct or in the CFL Misconduct

Not as of 2026:

Rough Play:
(c) Punching or attempting to punch a player in the head area with an open or closed hand.

Attempting means you can miss.  And even a miss will get you a DQ.  So if ya gonna do it, make sure you really whack that guy!!
