Yup. I'm thrilled u sports and the other leagues are putting pressure on Johnston. They're basically saying "we considered your radical changes for a whole year and have concluded you're batpoop crazy".

Don't underestimate the pressure this puts on Johnston. Sanity may still prevail.

This means hundreds of community fields across the country will avoid the expense of making rash alterations.  Football Canada may also decide not to follow the CFL in any recent or proposed changes to game play.

This is all totally normal stuff and won't make a difference to the CFL's plans. After all, the NCAA and NFL rules differ quite in a bit even if the field dimensions are the same. Other sports differ at different levels of play also. USports doesn't really have a substantial following so I'm sure they'll align over time. The CFL is also playing nice by saying they'll pay to retrofit the field in shared spaces but I am sure they won't do it forever. Suspect they may have to with some stadium agreements but those things change and evolve too - albeit more slowly.

And I kinda like that there's a variation. If the old rules are valued by the market in any meaningful way we should see a rise of attention and attendance at USports. Anyone want to guess how likely that is?

I can't see PAS making changes for FG posts.  Maybe chalking the field, but the posts? 

There are variables in different field at different levels.  Not sure if any minor league fields still have the H field goal posts on the goal line, but I am sure they used those after the pro's got the offset posts.

And its not going to make any difference to players learning the game in USports (still hate than name, it literally says US right at the start, how is that Canadian?) moving up to CFL, or high school moving to Usports or NCAA (Now, NCAA has a C in it, why can't ours?)

Yes, the new rules mean we miss out on a handful of explosive missed FG returns, and no winning the game on a walk off missed FG.  (Maybe we need better kickers so the "missed FG play no longer exists?)

But, overall, until we see whether the changes make the game faster and higher scoring overall, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.  After all, they were Unanimously approved by everyone with actual skin in the game, the owners.

STAFFORD, TA'ALA AND MORGAN FINED FOR ACTIONS IN WEEK 13

TORONTO (September 3, 2026) – The Canadian Football League (CFL) Department of Health, Safety and Integrity manages league discipline, while the Office of the Commissioner oversees suspendible offences.

The Department – which includes Chief Football Operations Officer Greg Dick, Vice-President of Officiating Darren Hackwood, Vice-President of Football Operations and Player Safety Eric Noivo and Associate Vice-President of Football Operations Ryan Janzen – has issued four fines from Week 13.

• Ottawa defensive lineman Jelani Stafford has been fined for delivering a high hit on BC quarterback Nathan Rourke.
• Ottawa defensive lineman Blessman Ta'ala has been fined for delivering a low hit on BC quarterback Nathan Rourke.
• Ottawa linebacker Nyles Morgan has been fined for two separate actions:
• Committing non-football acts on BC fullback Riley Pickett.
• Delivering a blindside block on BC offensive lineman Michael Couture.
