The pending free agent isn't expected to be ready for game action until the fall as he's still recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

Despite the setback, the Overland Park, Kan., product has hired a CFL agent and intends on playing again once fully healed.

Hope Walters leaves the door open for his return, he deserves the opportunity to try again.

peg_city

He'd be fine on some sort of contract with playing bonuses.

Blueforlife

Wish him luck, biggest thing is to heal 110% and come back strong.  I think he can provide value to someone.  I believe we made the right choice here.

TBURGESS

Not surprised. Wish him luck in his future endevours.

I'd still bring him back if and when he is totally healthy. There will be some risk involved but by mid season SMS will be for a partial season and injuries may be occurring on the roster.

Didn't he already have an agent?

Love the player, hate the injuries.

If he recovers, I can't see Walters not taking him back if 100%.

Problem is, what is 100%?  It can be quite a different judgement, between what the player thinks, and what the team doctor thinks.

And what another team's doctor thinks.

A team needing REC help might take a flyer before we'd be comfortable signing him.

Love to see him back, but not on the IR.

Sir Blue and Gold

Bombers were patient and gave him a chance to come back last year. What more can you do?

Time to give someone else an opportunity.

Blue In BC

Let's say he's signed for game 10 and plays 2 games and gets injured again. Then it's covered on 6 game IR. So risk is minimal.

It's a timing issue depending on when he's healthy and whether we're having injury problems.

I hope he can come back to form as a very good receiver even if that is not quite what he used to be.

It's been a tough road for Schoen after he had two pretty incredible seasons in 2022 and 2023. Hope his rehab goes well and he can return sooner than later.

He could be a good add if he becomes available in the late summer/early fall.

Blueforlife

I would welcome him back next year if he shows he can recover and play somewhere else this year.

That said in a pinch and at the right price, he is an option for this year but I think risk / reward isn't there (yet).

I'm sure we'll be watching and waiting to see how his re-hab goes. Team doctors may have more insight to what the probabilities will look like. Hindsight is always 100% but we may have rushed him back last year resulting in re-injury.

Is he here rehabbing?  Under the CBA, are the Bombers on the hook for the rehab costs?  Is it a year they have to extend his medical care for?  Not living expenses, but medical?

Does he have a side gig?

I don't know if it's the Bombers or the league, but I'm pretty sure he's eligible for some level of coverage. Who cares either way?

I care, because if the Bombers are covering it, and he's here, doing his rehab in our state of the art facilities, then we have the inside scoop on his recovery, and can anticipate when/if he is going to be ready and we can commit to him coming back.

If he went "home" (not sure where he's from or if he's here or there), and rehabbing with his own crew, we have no privileged information.
